British Rail Sprinter
The Sprinter is a family of diesel multiple unit trains in use on the Rail transport in Great Britain, British railway system. They were built in the 1980s and early-1990s by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL), Metro-Cammell and British Leyland, Leyland. Sprinters operate in almost every part of Great Britain, from rural branch lines to commuter expresses into major cities. The class includes British Rail Class 150, class 150, British Rail Class 151, 151, British Rail Class 153, 153, 154, British Rail Class 155, 155, British Rail Class 156, 156, British Rail Class 158, 158 and British Rail Class 159, 159. Most have Cummins UK, Cummins engines with Voith hydraulic transmissions, although 47 Class 158 units have Perkins Engines, Perkins engines instead. Originally British Rail coined the "Sprinter" name for the units, mainly to promote the superior acceleration capabilities of the units compared with the first-generation DMUs they replaced. Advertisements such as "The Spri ...

British Rail Class 158
The British Rail Class 158 ''Sprinter (British Rail), Express Sprinter'' is a diesel multiple unit (DMU) passenger train. It is a member of the Sprinter (British Rail), Sprinter series of regional trains, produced as a replacement for British Rail's List of British Rail diesel multiple unit classes#First generation, first generation of DMUs; of the other members, the British Rail Class 159, Class 159 is almost identical to the Class 158, having been converted from Class 158 to Class 159 in two batches to operate express services from West of England Main Line, London Waterloo to the West of England. The Class 158 was constructed between 1989 and 1992 by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) at its Derby Litchurch Lane Works. The majority were built as two-car sets; some three-car sets were also produced. During September 1990, the first Express Sprinters were operated by ScotRail (British Rail), ScotRail; the type was promptly introduced to secondary routes across the Midland ...

British Rail Class 153
The British Rail Class 153 ''Sprinter (British Rail), Super Sprinter'' are single-coach Diesel multiple unit#diesel–hydraulic, diesel-hydraulic railcars which were converted from two-coach diesel multiple units in the early 1990s. The class was intended for service on rural branch lines, either where passenger numbers do not justify longer trains or to boost the capacity on services with high passenger volume. Description In 1987 and 1988, Regional Railways took delivery of 35 two-coach Class 155 units, built by Leyland Bus at its Workington factory, to replace older DMUs. After the Class 155s entered service, a further requirement emerged for the replacement of ageing railcars on rural lines, mostly of and . British Rail decided to meet this need by dividing each unit in the Regional Railways Class 155 fleet into two separate railcars that could then be converted for use independently, which would create a fleet of 70 vehicles. The seven further Class 155 units that had bee ...

British Rail Class 455
The British Rail Class 455 is an electric multiple unit passenger train built by BREL between 1982 and 1985. It is operated on suburban services in Greater London and Surrey by South Western Railway (train operating company), South Western Railway, as well as formerly by Southern (Govia Thameslink Railway), Southern. Description The Class 455 was originally to be classified as the Class 510, which were planned as a version of the . However, as the Chopper (electronics), chopper control system at the time was not considered robust enough for the electrically rougher third rail Southern Region of British Railways, Southern Region, they were fitted with GEC Traction camshaft#Electrical, camshaft-control systems instead. The Class 510 designation was changed to Class 455. The class has the same bodyshell as the and , but as they were designed for inner suburban services they do not feature first class seating, air conditioning or toilet facilities and are restricted to . Toilet
A toilet is a piece of sanitary hardware that collects human waste (urine and feces) and sometimes toilet paper, usually for disposal. Flush toilets use water, while dry or non-flush toilets do not. They can be designed for a sitting position popular in Europe and North America with a toilet seat, with additional considerations for those with disabilities, or for a squatting posture more popular in Asia, known as a squat toilet. In urban areas, flush toilets are usually connected to a sewer system; in isolated areas, to a septic tank. The waste is known as '' blackwater'' and the combined effluent, including other sources, is sewage. Dry toilets are connected to a pit, removable container, composting chamber, or other storage and treatment device, including urine diversion with a urine-diverting toilet. " Toilet" or "toilets" is also widely used for rooms containing only one or more toilets and hand-basins. Lavatory is an older word for toilet. The technolo ...

Decibel
The decibel (symbol: dB) is a relative unit of measurement equal to one tenth of a bel (B). It expresses the ratio of two values of a Power, root-power, and field quantities, power or root-power quantity on a logarithmic scale. Two signals whose level (logarithmic quantity), levels differ by one decibel have a power ratio of 101/10 (approximately ) or root-power ratio of 101/20 (approximately ). The strict original usage above only expresses a relative change. However, the word decibel has since also been used for expressing an Absolute scale, absolute value that is relative to some fixed reference value, in which case the dB symbol is often suffixed with letter codes that indicate the reference value. For example, for the reference value of 1 volt, a common suffix is "#Voltage, V" (e.g., "20 dBV"). As it originated from a need to express power ratios, two principal types of scaling of the decibel are used to provide consistency depending on whether the scaling refer ...

British Rail Class 210
The British Rail Class 210 was a type of diesel-electric multiple unit (DEMU) passenger train designed and constructed by British Rail Engineering Limited's Derby Litchurch Lane Works. The Class 210 was developed during the early 1980s to be a modern replacement for the ageing 'first generation' DMUs in use on the Southern Region of British Railways, such as the Class 201 and Class 207. It was designed around a particularly ambitious set of requirements defined in a specification produced by British Rail (BR), construction of the first unit commenced during 1982. While several prototypes were built and subject to extensive testing during the 1980s, the process did not result in a production run for the type. It can be considered an alternative to, or spiritual precursor of, the highly successful ''Sprinter'' family of DMUs that were produced during the 1980s. The pair of Class 210s that were built were only operated for a few years before being withdrawn in the 1980s. Carri ...

Asbestos
Asbestos ( ) is a group of naturally occurring, Toxicity, toxic, carcinogenic and fibrous silicate minerals. There are six types, all of which are composed of long and thin fibrous Crystal habit, crystals, each fibre (particulate with length substantially greater than width) being composed of many microscopic "fibrils" that can be released into the atmosphere by Abrasion (mechanical), abrasion and other processes. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can lead to various dangerous lung conditions, including mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer. As a result of these health effects, asbestos is considered a serious Health hazard, health and safety hazard. Archaeological studies have found evidence of asbestos being used as far back as the Stone Age to strengthen ceramic pots, but large-scale mining began at the end of the 19th century when manufacturers and builders began using asbestos for its desirable physical properties. Asbestos is an excellent Thermal insulation, thermal and In ...

British Rail
British Railways (BR), which from 1965 traded as British Rail, was a state-owned company that operated most rail transport in Great Britain from 1948 to 1997. Originally a trading brand of the Railway Executive of the British Transport Commission, it became an independent statutory corporation in January 1963, when it was formally renamed the British Railways Board. British Railways was formed on 1 January 1948 as a result of the Transport Act 1947, which nationalised the Big Four British railway companies along with some other (but not all) smaller railways. Profitability of the railways became a pressing concern during the 1950s, leading to multiple efforts to bolster performance, including some line closures. The 1955 Modernisation Plan formally directed a process of dieselisation and electrification to take place; accordingly, steam locomotives had been entirely replaced by diesel and electric traction (except for the narrow-gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway tourist lin ...
