British Columbia Hussars
The British Columbia Hussars was a light cavalry regiment of the Non-Permanent Active Militia of the Canadian Militia (now the Canadian Army). In 1939, the regiment was converted from light armour to artillery. Bessborough Armoury
Bessborough Armoury is a Canadian Armed Forces armoury located at 2025 West 11th Avenue in Vancouver, British Columbia. History Construction of the armoury began in September 1932 and was completed in the following spring. Architecture The architect was Richard T. Perry, who was also the Commanding Officer of the 15th Brigade. The outside of the building was done in an Art Deco style. Once the building was completed it initially provided accommodations for 15th Brigade and the British Columbia Hussars. The building was officially opened on 27 March 1934 by the Earl of Bessborough, the Governor General of Canada. The building is listed on the Vancouver inventory of heritage buildings as a "B" Category and is classed as a "Registered" building by the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office. A hussar, ; ; ; ; . was a member of a class of light cavalry, originally from the Kingdom of Hungary during the 15th and 16th centuries. The title and distinctive dress of these horsemen were subsequently widely adopted by light cavalry regiments in European armies during the late 17th and 18th centuries. By the 19th century, hussars were wearing jackets decorated with braid plus shako or Busby (military headdress), busby fur hats and had developed a romanticized image of being dashing and adventurous. Several modern armies retain the designation of hussars for Armored unit, armored (tank) units. The Second Battle of Ypres was fought from 22 April – 25 May 1915, during the First World War, for control of the tactically-important high ground to the east and the south of the Flemish town of Ypres, in western Belgium. 4th Queen's Own Hussars
The 4th Queen's Own Hussars was a cavalry regiment in the British Army, first raised in 1685. It saw service for three centuries, including the First World War and the Second World War. It amalgamated with the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, to form the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars in 1958. History Formation and early history The regiment was first raised by the Hon. John Berkeley as The Princess Anne of Denmark's Regiment of Dragoons in 1685, as part of the response to the Monmouth Rebellion by the regimenting of various independent troops, and ranked as the 4th Dragoons. The regiment transferred its allegiance to King William III in February 1689 and fought the depleted forces of James II in Scotland later that year. The Kelowna Accord is a series of agreements between the Government of Canada, First Ministers of the Provinces, Territorial Leaders, and the leaders of five national Aboriginal organizations in Canada. In music, a fifteenth or double octave, abbreviated ''15ma'', is the interval between one musical note and another with one-quarter the wavelength or quadruple the frequency. It has also been referred to as the bisdiapason. The fourth harmonic, it is two octaves. It is referred to as a fifteenth because, in the diatonic scale, there are 15 notes between them if one counts both ends (as is customary). Two octaves (based on the Italian word for eighth) do not make a sixteenth, but a fifteenth. In other contexts, the term ''two octaves'' is likely to be used. For example, if one note has a frequency of 400 Hz, the note a fifteenth above it is at 1600 Hz (''15ma'' ), and the note a fifteenth below is at 100 Hz (''15mb'' ). The ratio of frequencies of two notes a fifteenth apart is therefore 4:1.
