Britannia Aquatic Club
The Britannia Yacht Club (BYC) is a private social club, yacht club, and tennis club based in Britannia, a neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1887 by a group of cottagers. The BYC is located on an extension of land at the eastern end of Lac Deschênes, near the Deschênes Rapids on the Ottawa River. A land block owned by the National Capital Commission on the south side of the harbor is leased to the BYC. The area immediately south of the property is occupied by residences of Britannia Bay. The harbor was built from an abandoned power canal, which now lays beside the club property, and has been expanded twice since its original development. The harbor's water level is controlled by a system of stop logs at its entrance. The BYC is a member of the Ontario Sailing Association, Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons, and the Canadian Yachting Association. Pointe-Claire Yacht Club
The Pointe-Claire Yacht Club is a yacht club in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Canada. It is on the shore of Lac Saint-Louis, a widening of the St. Lawrence River on the southern shore of the Island of Montreal. The club promotes racing and hosts regattas run by the provincial organization, Voile Québec. The club has slips for about 150 boats and dry dock for dozens of others. A municipal lightning detector and alarm is nearby. Racing programs use Lasers, Optimists, and 420s. With the motto "sailing is freedom", the Association Québecoise de voile adaptée operates a sailing program for people with mobility impairments, hosted at the PCYC site. Lac Deschênes
Lac Deschênes () is a lake on the Ottawa River that runs from the Chats Falls, Chats Falls Dam near Fitzroy Harbour, Ontario, Fitzroy Harbour in the west to the Deschênes Rapids at Britannia, Ottawa, Britannia in the east. It is a little over wide at its widest point and little more than a few hundred metres at its narrowest. The provincial border between Ontario and Quebec runs through the length of the lake with the City of Ottawa on its southern shore and the city of Gatineau on much of its northern shore. Britannia is a group of neighbourhoods in Bay Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Ottawa River across from Aylmer, Quebec, adjacent to its namesake, Britannia Bay, north of Richmond Road, west of the Kichi Zibi Mikan and east of Boyce Avenue. The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS) is a yacht club, the oldest in the Americas, and is located on the Northwest Arm of Halifax Harbour in Halifax, Nova Scotia. History Originally established as the Halifax Yacht Club in 1837, the club was granted permission by Queen Victoria to use "Royal" in its name in 1861. The Royal Hamilton Yacht Club (RHYC) is located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, at the west end of Lake Ontario, and has been in existence since 1888.
