Bright Shores Health System
Bright Shores Health System is a hospital network in Grey and Bruce counties in Ontario, Canada. It operates six hospitals sites, including the 400-bed Owen Sound Regional Hospital. The other five hospitals are Lion's Head Hospital, Markdale Hospital, Meaford Hospital, Southampton Hospital and Wiarton Hospital. As of 2022, the Chief Executive Officer was Gary Sims. Bright Shores Health System was rebranded in 2023, having been formerly known as Grey Bruce Health Services. Southgate is a township in southwestern Ontario, Canada, in the southeast corner of Grey County. Southgate was formed on January 1, 2000, when the Village of Dundalk, the Township of Proton and the Township of Egremont were amalgamated. The headwaters of the South Saugeen, Beatty Saugeen and Grand Rivers are located in Southgate. Lion's Head, Ontario
Lion's Head is a community in the municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the midway point of the Bruce Peninsula, about halfway between Owen Sound and Tobermory, just east of Ferndale on Bruce Road 9. Lion's Head is located on the 45th parallel north, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. The town is named after the resemblance of a lion's profile in the rock formation of the Niagara Escarpment. The first post office opened in 1895. It is a well travelled holiday spot on the coast of Georgian Bay. Markdale, Ontario
Markdale is a community in the Municipality of Grey Highlands, in Grey County, Ontario, Canada. The population was 1,216 in 2016, an increase of 3.5% from 1,175 in 2011. In 2016, the average age of the population was approximately 43 years old. History Markdale was first settled in 1846 and originally called East Glenelg, after a nearby township. In 1864, it was renamed Cornabus after the Scottish hometown, Islay, of the postmaster, Donald MacDuffie (1814–1892). The post office was established in 1869. In the 1870s, new railways were a vital economic engine for small Ontario towns, as evidenced by nearby Flesherton, which had failed to prosper after the Toronto, Grey and Bruce Railway decided to bypass it. Meaford is a municipality in Grey County, Ontario, Canada located on Nottawasaga Bay, a sub-basin of Georgian Bay and Owen Sound Bay. The municipality's seal and motto reflect its heritage as a place of apple orchards, but in the 21st century the area has partly switched to weekend homes, seasonal homes, and lakeside tourism. Southampton, Ontario
Southampton is a community on the shores of Lake Huron in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. It is close to Port Elgin and is located at the mouth of the Saugeen River in the Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territory. The size of the town is 6.44 square kilometres. The permanent population in 2016 was 3,678, but the summer population is higher since cottagers and campers spend vacation time in the area. Although the community still has its own post office, and road signs indicating the name Southampton, it is no longer an entity in its own right. Wiarton Hospital
Wiarton Hospital (previously the Bruce Peninsula and District Red Cross Memorial Hospital) is 22-bed rural hospital in Wiarton, Ontario that was opened by the Canadian Red Cross in 1949. The hospital replaced the Wiarton Red Cross Outpost. The original structure was replaced in 1994, and is currently operated by Bright Shores Health System. History and background In the aftermath of World War I, the Canadian Red Cross began health programs in Ontario, with the initial activities starting in 1922 with the opening of the Wilberforce Red Cross Outpost, and the Wiarton Red Cross Outpost opening subsequent to that.
