Brier Creek or Briar Creek is a U.S. Geological Survey. It rises in Warren County east of Camak and flows southeast to the Savannah River in Screven County, east of Sylvania. The stream's name comes from the Native Americans of the area, who encountered briers along its course. Camak is a town in Warren County, Georgia, United States. The town is located just off Interstate 20 between Atlanta and Augusta. The population was 165 at the 2000 census. History The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the place in 1898 as the "Town of Camak", with municipal corporate limits extending in a one-half mile radius from the Georgia Railroad depot. Sylvania is a town in and the county seat of Screven County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,956 at the 2010 census. History The area was inhabited for thousands of years by various cultures of indigenous peoples. By the time of European encounter, it was occupied by the Yuchi peoples, but some Creeks, the Uchee's allies, moved into the area during Colonial times. The town of Sylvania was founded in 1790 by settlers migrating to the area after the American Revolutionary War. The Battle of Brier Creek was an American Revolutionary War battle fought on March 3, 1779 near the confluence of Brier Creek with the Savannah River in eastern Georgia. A mixed Patriot force consisting principally of militia from North Carolina and Georgia along with some Continental regulars was defeated, suffering significant casualties. The rout damaged Patriot morale. Background Following the entry of France into the American Revolutionary War in 1778, the British focused their attention on the American South, which they had not paid great attention to in the early years of the war.
