Brian Rice (artist)
Brian Rice (born 1936) is a British abstract artist associated with the pop art movement who has had 35 solo exhibitions and around 200 group exhibitions. Rice studied at Yeovil School of Art where he learned about printmaking and for a year Goldsmiths College. He was very active in London during the 1960s where he produced non-representational prints and paintings including his Japanese Series. He worked mostly in screen printing at this time.Brian Rice. Abstract Artist
Abstract art uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. The sources from which individual artists drew their theoretical arguments were diverse, and reflected the social and intellectual preoccupations in all areas of Western culture at that time. Yeovil School Of Art
Yeovil ( ) is a town and civil parish in the district of South Somerset, England. The population of Yeovil at the last census (2011) was 45,784. More recent estimates show a population of 48,564. It is close to Somerset's southern border with Dorset, from London, south of Bristol, from Sherborne and from Taunton. Goldsmiths, University of London, officially the Goldsmiths' College, is a constituent research university of the University of London in England.
