Brian McCall (politician)
Brian McCall, Ph.D., is chancellor of the Texas State University System. He previously served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing the communities of Collin County. Early life and education McCall was raised in Plano, Texas. He earned a bachelor's degree from Baylor University, a master's degree from Southern Methodist University, and doctor of philosophy degree from University of Texas at Dallas. He also spent a year as a visiting post-graduate student at Oxford University. He is the author of ''The Power of the Texas Governor: Connally to Bush'', published by University of Texas Press, which examines how various governors have overcome the institutional limitations of the office to achieve significant political power. Texas State University System
The Texas State University System (TSUS) was created in 1911 to oversee the state's normal schools. Since its creation it has broadened its focus and comprises institutions of many different scopes. The other systems of state universities are the Texas A&M System, the Texas Tech System, the University of Houston System, the University of North Texas System, and the University of Texas System. ZACH Theatre (the Zachary Scott Theatre Center) is a professional theatre company located in Austin, Texas, as well as its associated complex of theatre facilities. The company is the oldest continuously active theatre company in Texas, and one of the ten oldest in the country. Plano, Texas
Plano ( ) is a city in Collin County and Denton County, Texas, United States. It had a population of 285,494 at the 2020 census. It is a principal city of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. History European settlers came to the area near present-day Plano in the early 1840s. Facilities such as a sawmill, a gristmill, and a store soon brought more people to the area. A mail service was established, and after rejecting several names for the nascent town (including naming it in honor of then-President Millard Fillmore), residents suggested the name ''Plano'' (from the Spanish word for "flat") in reference to the local terrain, unvaried and devoid of any trees. The post office accepted the name. In 1872, the completion of the Houston and Central Texas Railway helped Plano grow, and it was incorporated in 1873. By 1874, the population was over 500. The Texas House of Representatives is the lower house of the bicameral Texas Legislature. It consists of 150 members who are elected from single-member districts for two-year terms.
