Brian Boyd (unionist)
Brian Boyd is a trade unionist. He was elected secretary of the Victorian Trades Hall Council on 5 May 2005, succeeding Leigh Hubbard in this position, one of Australia's most powerful trade union roles. He is a longstanding member of Birds Australia, now called BirdLife Australia. Boyd worked for the Builders Labourers Federation from late 1979 to 1988, which included the period when the BLF was deregistered. He coordinated Victoria's building unions, when working as an industrial and campaigns officer with the Victorian Trades Hall since being elected to the position of Industrial Officer in 1988. Victorian Trades Hall Council
The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is a representative body of trade union organisations, known as a labour council, in the state of Victoria, Australia. It comprises 43 affiliated trade unions and professional associations, and eight regional Trades and Labour Councils of Victoria. The eight regional Trades and Labour Councils are Ballarat Regional Trades & Labour Council, Bendigo Trades Hall Council, Geelong Trades Hall Council, Gippsland Trades & Labour Council Inc., Goulburn Valley Trades & Labour Council, Sunraysia Trades & Labour Council Inc., North-East Border Trades & Labour Council and South-West Trades & Labour Council. Australian Workplace Agreement
An Australian workplace agreement (AWA) was a type of formalised individual agreement negotiated between an employer and employee in Australia that existed from 1996 to 2009. Employers could offer a "take it or leave it" AWA as a condition of employment. They were registered by the Employment Advocate and did not require a dispute resolution procedure. These agreements operated only at the federal level. AWAs were individual written agreements concerning terms and conditions of employment between an employer and employee in Australia, under the '' Workplace Relations Act 1996''. An AWA could override employment conditions in state or territory laws except those relating to occupational health and safety, workers' compensation, or training arrangements. Mary Bluett
Mary Bluett (born 12 March 1951) is an Australian trade unionist and the former president of the Victorian branch of the Australian Education Union (AEU). In 1974, Bluett became a branch representative of the Victorian Secondary Teachers Association (VSTA). The next year, she became a member of the VSTA's Central Committee. In 1982, she became the vice president of the VSTA, before being elected as the president of the VSTA in 1994. The VSTA ultimately merged with two other Victorian teachers unions to become the Victorian branch of the AEU. Bluett became the Victorian AEU's first vice president. She became the president of the AEU's Victorian Branch in 1998. On 19 July 2012, Fair Work Australia allowed the AEU to ballot teachers' aides and other support staff as to whether they would join a planned strike in September 2012 surrounding pay claims by the government of Ted Baillieu. The Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) is Australia's largest union in the construction, forestry, maritime, textile, clothing and footwear production industries.
