Brian Ahern (footballer)
Brian Ahern (born 15 November 1952) is a Scottish former football midfielder. Ahern is best known for his time at Clyde, where he holds the current record for most league appearances in the history of the club, at 420 appearances. He made 504 appearances in all competitions. Ahern was also the captain during the latter stages of his Clyde career, and he captained the side to the Scottish Second Division trophy during their centenary year. He was the solitary Clyde player selected for a Glasgow Select XI against the Football League XI to mark the Silver Jubilee in 1977, but was an unused substitute. Ahern was picked for the Scotland semi professional team in 1981. Scotland National Semi-professional Football Team
The Scotland national semi-professional football team was a football team that represented Scotland. The Scotland semi-professional team competed in the Four Nations Tournament and was organised by the Scottish Football Association (SFA). The team was disbanded in 2008, when the SFA board decided to stop providing the finance needed for the team to operate. At the time the team was disbanded, players in the three senior non-leagues, the East of Scotland Football League, Highland Football League and South of Scotland Football League, were eligible for selection. The 1970–71 season was the 98th season of competitive football in Scotland and the 74th season of Scottish league football. Glasgow Cup
The Glasgow Cup is a football tournament open to teams from Glasgow, Scotland. Operated by the Glasgow Football Association, it was competed for annually by senior Glasgow clubs from 1887 until 1989. It is now (since the 2019–20 amended rules) competed for between the senior teams of Clyde, Partick Thistle and Queen's Park and the youth teams of Celtic and Rangers, and has used both knockout and round robin formats to determine the finalists. The cup was dominated by the city's Old Firm rivals, Rangers and Celtic, who won the competition 44 times and 29 times respectively (including one shared win) while it was a senior competition. Only five times did the final not feature either Rangers or Celtic (1889, 1915, 1946, 1947, and 1989).
