Brian Ackland-Snow
Brian Ackland-Snow (31 March 1940 – 30 March 2013) was an English production designer. He won an Oscar in the category Best Art Direction for the film ''A Room with a View''. He also won an Emmy for best art direction for a miniseries or special in 1995 for ''Scarlett'' on CBS. His son, Andrew Ackland-Snow, has also gone on to become an art director in films. In film and television, the production designer is the individual responsible for the overall aesthetic of the story. The production design gives the viewers a sense of the time period, the plot location, and character actions and feelings. Working directly with the director, cinematographer, and producer, production designers have a key creative role in the creation of motion pictures and television. The Academy Award for Best Production Design recognizes achievement for art direction in film. The category's original name was Best Art Direction, but was changed to its current name in 2012 for the 85th Academy Awards.
