David Brevik (born February 14, 1968) is an American video game designer, producer and programmer who served as the co-founder and president of Blizzard North. He is best known for the critically acclaimed ''Diablo'' franchise. Currently he serves as game designer and founder of his independent studio, Graybeard Games. Biography Early life Brevik was born in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. He was educated at California State University, Chico from 1986 to 1991. Career Following his position as lead technical director at Iguana Entertainment, Brevik left to form Condor / Blizzard North, holding a position as president of the company from September 1993 to 2003. GameSpot named him as 1996's fourth most influential person in computer gaming for his role in the inception and development of '' Diablo''. Brevik, Norway
Brevik () is a town in Telemark, Norway, with an estimated population of 2,700. Brevik was established as a municipality 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt), but was merged with Porsgrunn on 1 January 1964. Brevik is regarded as one of the best preserved towns from the sailing ship era. The town is located on the far end of Eidanger peninsula ( Eidangerhalvøya), and was a former export centre for ice and timber. The last shipment of wood to the United Kingdom was around 1960. Brevik is Cort Adeler's birth town. Etymology The Old Norse form of the name may have been ''*Breiðvík'', where the first element is ''breiðr'' 'broad' and the last is ''vík'' f 'inlet'. Brevik Church
Brevik Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Porsgrunn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Brevik. It is one of the churches for the Eidanger parish which is part of the Skien prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The grey, concrete church was built in a rectangular design in 1963 using plans drawn up by the architect Gudolf Blakstad. The church seats about 450 people. History The village of Brevik was growing rapidly during the late 1600s. On 23 January 1670, six men, representing the villagers, petitioned the King to have their own church (also around this time, Brevik was established as a ladested). On 5 February, the county governor, Preben von Ahnen, endorsed their application. This was approved by the King and government on 30 May 1670. Brevik Station
Brevik Station ( no, Brevik stasjon) is a former railway station located at Strømtangen in the village of Brevik in Porsgrunn, Norway. It served as the terminus of the Brevik Line from 16 October 1895 to the station closed on 1 December 1982. The station building is designed by Paul Due in Romanesque style, is preserved and has been listed as a cultural heritage site. There was a major political discussion if the station should be located at Strømtangen or Setretangen. Construction commenced in 1893 and opened on 15 October 1895. The station initially saw heavy intercity traffic as it served the coastal ferries onwards to Agder until 1927. The main traffic was however a commuter train service to Porsgrunn and Skien, which operated until 1 February 1964. All passenger transport ceased on 26 May 1968. Brevik Line
The Brevik Line ( no, Brevikbanen) is a railway which runs from Eidanger to Brevik in Porsgrunn, Norway. The single track and electrified branch line of the Vestfold Line is exclusively used for freight traffic to Norcem Brevik hauled by CargoNet. First proposed in 1875, the Norwegian State Railways (NSB) started construction in 1892, allowing the railway to be officially opened on 15 October 1895. An early important service was correspondence with a train from Oslo to a coastal ferry, as it was the closest line to Agder until 1927. The Brevik Line was originally built as a narrow gauge railway, but was converted to standard gauge in 1921 and electrified in 1949. From the opening until 1964 the line saw between ten and nineteen daily round trips with a commuter train to Skien. All passenger transport was terminated in 1968.
