Brett Wheeler
Brett Wheeler (born 21 November 1971 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a former professional basketball player in the National Basketball League. A 6'10" (208 cm) tall Centre or Power forward, Wheeler played for the Adelaide 36ers, South East Melbourne Magic, Victoria Titans, Perth Wildcats and the Sydney Kings during his 17 year career, appearing in a record 8 NBL Grand Finals (at least once with each team) and won the 2003–04 and 2004–05 NBL championship with the Kings. He also represented Australia at international level during his career. Career Wheeler played his junior basketball with the Noarlunga Tigers in southern Adelaide, began his NBL career as a lanky 19 year old with the Adelaide 36ers in 1991 as backup to the team's Boomers centre Mark Bradtke. The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five or the pivot, is one of the five positions in a regulation basketball game. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. In the NBA, the center is typically close to tall. Perth Entertainment Centre
The Perth Entertainment Centre was an indoor arena and cinema complex in Perth, Western Australia, located on Wellington Street at the northern edge of the Perth central business district. It was demolished as part of the Perth City Link project in late 2011, with its replacement, Perth Arena, opening the following year. Brett Maher (basketball)
Brett Steven Maher (born 17 April 1973) is an Australian retired professional basketball player. He played his entire seventeen-year career for his hometown Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League (NBL) from 1992 to 2009. Maher also represented Australia at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympic Games, as well as at the 1998 FIBA World Championship. Maher gained his highest international basketball honour when he captained the Boomers at the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane. Mike McKay (basketball)
Michael George McKay (born 15 October 1965) is an Australian former professional basketball player. He played most of his career with the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League (NBL), winning the 1986 championship with the team. McKay also played in the NBL for the West Adelaide Bearcats (with whom he started his NBL career in 1983), Brisbane Bullets, Canberra Cannons and the Wollongong Hawks. Phil Smyth
Philip John Smyth AM (born 11 May 1958) is an Australian former professional basketball player and coach. He won three National Basketball League (NBL) championships with the Canberra Cannons before going on to be a three-time championship-winning head coach of the NBL's Adelaide 36ers. Smyth was a four-time Olympian with the Australian national basketball team. Professional career Smyth, an Adelaide junior, was already seen as one of Australia's best point guards when the National Basketball League first started in 1979, yet it took him until 1982 to actually play in the league, despite having represented Australia at the 1978 FIBA World Championship in the Philippines and at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Robert Rose (basketball)
Robert Paul Rose (born 27 December 1964) is an American-Australian retired professional basketball player. He played the majority of his career in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL), where he won a championship with the South East Melbourne Magic in 1992 and was a two-time NBL Most Valuable Player in 1993 and 2001. Rose was nicknamed "Australia's Michael Jordan" due to his clutch shooting and defensive abilities. College career Rose played collegiately for the George Mason Patriots from 1982 to 1986. Mark Davis (born December 23, 1960) is an American-Australian former professional basketball player. He most notably played in the National Basketball League for the Adelaide 36ers between 1985 and 2001, gaining the nickname of "The Chairman of the Boards" for his record-breaking rebounding achievements. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Davis became an Australian citizen in 1992. College career Davis began his college basketball career playing for the Temple Owls. Mike Dunlap
Michael Gregory Dunlap (born May 27, 1957) is an American professional basketball coach who serves as assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association. Dunlap is the former head coach of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats. Career Dunlap served three seasons in Australia (1994–1996) as head coach of the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League. Dunlap was successful in taking the team to the NBL Grand Final in 1994 against the North Melbourne Giants and the semi-finals in 1995 and 1996. Melbourne Tigers
Melbourne United is an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne, Victoria. United compete in the National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at John Cain Arena. The team made their debut in the NBL in 1984 as the Melbourne Tigers, as an extension of the Melbourne Basketball Association (MBA).
