Brett Harris
Brett Steven Harris (born June 24, 1998) is an American professional baseball third baseman for the Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2024. Amateur career Harris attended John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois, where played baseball and graduated from in 2016. He enrolled at the University of Houston to play college baseball for the Houston Cougars, but did not appear in a game, and transferred to Central Arizona College for the 2018 season. He then transferred to Gonzaga University, where he played three years of college baseball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs, batting .355 with six home runs during his senior season in 2021. He was also named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Professional career The Oakland Athletics selected Harris in the seventh round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft. The Lansing Lugnuts are a Minor League Baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate of the Athletics (baseball), Athletics. They are located in Lansing, Michigan, and play their home games at Jackson Field (Lansing), Jackson Field. The Midwest League came to Lansing after owners Tom Dickson and Sherrie Myers moved the team to work with the city for a public-private lease to build a new stadium. The Mesa Solar Sox are a baseball team that plays in the East Division of the Arizona Fall League. They play their home games in Mesa, Arizona, at Sloan Park, which is also the spring training facility of the Chicago Cubs. The Arizona Fall League (AFL) is an off-season baseball league owned and operated by Major League Baseball (MLB) which operates during autumn in Arizona, United States, at six different baseball complexes. Arizona Fall League rosters are filled by many of the top prospects in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) who are assigned by their parent clubs. Structure The six teams of the AFL are organized in two three-team divisions. 2021 Major League Baseball Draft
The 2021 Major League Baseball draft took place on July 11–13, 2021. In conjunction with the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the draft was held in Denver. The draft assigned amateur baseball players to MLB teams. The draft order was set based on the reverse order of the 2020 MLB season standings. In addition, compensation picks were distributed for players who did not sign from the 2020 MLB draft and for teams who lost qualifying free agents. On March 26, 2020, MLB and the MLBPA reached a deal that included the option to halve the draft to 20 rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MLB ultimately opted to shorten the draft to 20 rounds.
