Brereton, Cheshire
Brereton is a civil parish in the Cheshire East district, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. At the 2011 census, the population was 1,190. Brereton is mentioned in the Domesday book as the Manor of Bretune. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Brereton Green, Brereton Heath, Smethwick Green, Medhurst Green, Sandlow Green and Davenport. Brereton Hall, a Grade I listed, Elizabethan house that is in private ownership and not open to the public, was the family seat of the Lords Brereton, but the Lordship ended in 1722 when the fifth Baron Brereton died a bachelor. The adjoining Church of St Oswald is a Grade II* listed building described as "an unusually complete late Perpendicular church". Brereton, Staffordshire
Brereton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Brereton and Ravenhill, in the Cannock Chase District, Cannock Chase district, in the county of Staffordshire, England. History The village was previously a mining community, with several mines in the Brereton area. The Leahall Mine was the largest and last to close of the local mines, all of which have now ceased to operate. Recently part of the mine area has been redeveloped as the Towers Business Park, set around the Towers Point building. A 2,300-home housing development is now planned for the Leahall site. Baron Brereton
Baron Brereton, of Leighlin in the County of Carlow, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created on 11 May 1624 for Sir William Brereton, of Brereton, Cheshire. William Brereton was from an old and distinguished family in Cheshire, and the family seat was Brereton Hall in Cheshire, however Brereton had an estate near Old Leighlin, for which he and his heirs were absentee landlords. The first Lord Brereton was succeeded by his grandson, the second Lord Brereton. He was the son of Sir John Brereton (1591–1629), fourth son of the first Baron. He sat as Member of Parliament for Cheshire.
