Brenda Chebet
Brenda Chebet (born 16 March 2004) is a Kenyan track and field athlete. She won silver at the 1500 metres at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships. In February 2023 she won a gold medal in the mixed relay at the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships. In December 2023, Chebet was banned from elite competition for three years for doping, following a positive test for methasterone on 8 July. Her results starting from 8 July were disqualified, and her ban was given from 3 September 2023 to 2 September 2026. Career In June 2022 Chebet finished fourth in the African Championship 1500m race, held in Saint Pierre, Mauritius. She followed that up a few days later with sixth place in the women's 800m final. Chebet won the silver medal in the 1500 metres at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia in August 2022. 2022 African Championships In Athletics
The 22nd African Championships in Athletics were held in Saint Pierre, Mauritius, Saint Pierre, Mauritius from 8 to 12 June 2022, at the Cote d'Or National Sports Complex. This was the third time the event was held in Mauritius, and 500 athletes from 40 African countries out of 54 countries participated in the 22nd edition of the Senior Africa Championship. The event was originally scheduled to be held in 2020 in Oran, Algeria, but had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Emmanuel Wanyonyi (born 1 August 2004) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner specializing in the 800 metres, who won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in this event. With his personal best of 1:41.11 set at the 2024 Lausanne Diamond League, Wanyonyi and Wilson Kipketer are tied for second place in the all-time 800 metre list, behind only Wanyonyi's compatriot David Rudisha, who holds the world record. 800m
The 800 metres, or 800 meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional British racing distance. 800 m is 4.67 m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m.
