Breithorn01
The Breithorn (German for literally "broad horn"; 13,661 ft. or 4,160 m) is a mountain range of the Pennine Alps with its highest peak of the same name (but also called ''Breithorn (Western Summit)''), located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It lies on the main chain of the Alps, approximately halfway between the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa and east of the Theodul Pass. Most of the massif is glaciated and includes several subsidiary peaks, all located east of the main summit: the Central Breithorn, the western Breithorn Twin (or Eastern Breithorn), the Gendarm (or eastern Breithorn Twin) and the Roccia Nera. The main summit is sometimes distinguished by the name ''Western Breithorn'' (, ). The nearest settlements are Zermatt (Valais) and St-Jacques (Aosta Valley). Gandegg Hut
The Gandegg Hut () is an alpine hut, located above Zermatt in the canton of Valais. It is located at a height of above sea level, near Trockener Steg, approximately halfway between the Matterhorn and the Breithorn. The hut was built in 1885. Dent D'Hérens
The Dent d'Hérens (4,173 m) is a mountain in the Pennine Alps, lying on the border between Italy and Switzerland. The mountain lies a few kilometres west of the Matterhorn. Notable summits along the east ridge are Punta Bianca (3917 m), the prominent Punta Carrel (3841 m) with its subpeak Punta Maquignaz, and the significant Punta Maria Cristina (3703 m). The Aosta hut (2,781 m) is used for the normal route. Naming The mountain takes its name from the Val d'Hérens, a valley located further to the north. The original name was probably the ''Dent Blanche'', which is now that of the nearby Dent Blanche which overlooks the Val d'Hérens. Ayas, Aosta Valley
Ayas ( or ; Gressoney-Saint-Jean, Gressoney ; between 1939 and 1945) is a ''comune, comune sparso'' in the Aosta Valley region of northwestern Italy, with 1359 inhabitants in 2010. Geography It is made up of several ''Frazione, frazioni'' (locally officially called ''hameaux'', in French language, French), the two major ones being Antagnod which holds the town hall and the main parish, and Champoluc. Theodul Pass
Theodul Pass, elevation , (German: ''Theodulpass'', Italian: ''Colle del Teodulo'', French: ''Col de Saint-Théodule'', Walser German: ''Theoduljoch'') is a high mountain pass across the eastern Pennine Alps, connecting Zermatt in the Swiss canton of Valais and Breuil-Cervinia in the Italian region of Aosta Valley. Theodul Pass is the lowest and the easiest pass between the valleys of Zermatt and Valtournanche. The pass lies between the Matterhorn on the west and the Breithorn on the east and is overlooked by the Theodulhorn and Testa Grigia. The ''Rifugio del Teodulo'' (hut) is located just above the pass. The east side of the pass is covered by large glaciers part of the Theodul Glacier system and is part of a year-round ski area.
