Breg River
The Breg is a river, 46 kilometres long, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and the primary headstream of the Danube. Description The '' Breg '' is the longest and biggest headstream of the river Danube. It flows through the southeast part of the Middle Black Forest and the lowlands of the Baar region. The Breg rises at a height of , six kilometres northwest of Furtwangen. Its source, which is near St. Martin's Chapel and is also called the source of the Danube or ''Donauquelle'', is protected as a natural monument. It is located about 100 metres south-east of the Rhine / Danube watershed (the great European Watershed). Beyond that, but only about 900 metres away is the source of the Elz, which flows in the same longitudinal valley but initially in the opposite direction, to the north, and later flows into the Rhine. Source Of The Danube
The Danube is conventionally taken to be formed by the confluence of the two streams Brigach and Breg just east of Donaueschingen. The source of the Donaubach, which flows into the Danube, in the park of Donaueschingen Palace is often referred to as the source of the Danube (''Donauquelle''). Hydrologically, the source of the Danube is the source of the Breg as the larger of the two formative streams (with its spring at a higher altitude and - at the confluence - not only being 5 km longer but also having a higher amount of water discharge) which rises near Furtwangen. There was an active rivalry between the municipalities of Furtwangen and Donaueschingen for the claim of being home to the "official" source of the Danube since the 1950s, sometimes with the involvement of the government of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Brändbach Dam
The Brändbach Dam (), whose reservoir is called the Kirnbergsee, is a small dam near Bräunlingen in Baden-Württemberg in the Black Forest. It is used to generate electricity, for flood protection and for recreation. The lake lies within the Kirnbergsee protected area, which also includes surrounding areas. The dam impounds the Brändbach stream, which is part of the Breg catchment. Construction The barrier is a crooked gravity dam made of concrete with rubble stone cladding. It was renovated in 2000 and was the first dam in Germany to be sealed with a plastic sealing sheet (geomembrane) of PVC on the reservoir side. In 1955 it had already been reinforced with concrete on the reservoir side. The South German Railway Company (''Süddeutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft AG'') or SEG was founded on 11 February 1895, in Darmstadt by the railway entrepreneur, Herrmann Bachstein, and several bank managers.
