Breaking news, also called late-breaking news, a special report, special coverage, or a news flash, is a current issue that warrants the interruption of a scheduled broadcast in order to report its details. News broadcasters also use the term for continuing coverage of events of broad interest to viewers, attracting accusations of sensationalism. Formats Breaking news has been common to U.S. mass media since the 1930s, when the mass adoption of radio allowed the public to learn about new events without the need to print an extra edition of a newspaper. ''Breaking News'' () is a 2004 Hong Kong action cinema, Hong Kong action film produced and directed by Johnnie To, and starring Richie Jen, Kelly Chen, and Nick Cheung. The film premiered out of competition at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Plot The Hong Kong Police Force, Hong Kong Police finds itself in a public relations crisis after a disastrous shootout and the scene of a police officer surrendering in apparent fear to the mobsters was captured and telecast by the local media. Inspector Cheung and his crew are assigned to the task of catching these mobsters, led by the intelligent and resourceful Yuan. In the meantime, Superintendent Rebecca Fong leads an effort on the part of the Hong Kong Police to mislead the media and salvage the reputation of the police team. "Breaking News" is a song credited to American recording artist Michael Jackson. The song is said to have been written by Jackson, Eddie Cascio and James Porte, produced by Teddy Riley, Cascio and Jackson, and was included on the 2010 edition of his first posthumous album, ''Michael''. Along with "Monster" and "Keep Your Head Up", the song was allegedly recorded in the Porte/Cascios' basement in 2007. These tracks have been controversial since their release, with Jackson's fans and family members doubting their authenticity since release. As of August 2018, there is a pending court case as to whether a Jackson sound-alike named Jason Malachi was used for the lead vocal of the song. Breaking News is an American Saddlebred horse who won the Saddlebred Triple Crown in 2008, meaning he won the five-gaited stake in the Lexington Junior League Horse Show, the Five-Gaited World's Grand Championship in the World's Championship Horse Show, and the five-gaited stake in the American Royal Horse Show in the same year. Life and career Breaking News is a chestnut (color), chestnut gelding who was sired by The Talk of the Town and out of the mare Reedann's Cascade. He was bred by Dr. Alan Raun of Cumming, Iowa. Breaking News was trained by Peter Cowart of West Wind Stables in Statesville, North Carolina. He was bought by Beth Arndt and her granddaughter Megan McClure in 2003.
