Breaking Hearts
''Breaking Hearts'' is the eighteenth studio album by English musician Elton John. It was released on 18 June 1984 through John's The Rocket Record Company, Rocket label in the UK and Geffen Records in the US. Like the preceding ''Too Low for Zero'' (1983), the album was produced by Chris Thomas (record producer), Chris Thomas and features the classic Elton John Band lineup of Davey Johnstone on guitar, Dee Murray on bass, and Nigel Olsson on drums. Upon release, ''Breaking Hearts'' was a commercial success, peaking at number two in the UK and number 20 in the US. "Sad Songs (Say So Much)" was released as the album's lead single and reached number five in the US and number seven in the UK. Four further singles were released, including "Passengers (Elton John song), Passengers", which reached number five in the UK, as well as "Who Wears These Shoes?" and "In Neon", both of which reached the top 40 in the US. Sir Elton Hercules John (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight; 25 March 1947) is a British singer, songwriter and pianist. Elton John Band
The Elton John Band is the band that backs singer, composer and pianist Elton John on both studio and live recordings. The band has gone through several lineup changes, but Nigel Olsson, Davey Johnstone, and Ray Cooper have been members (albeit not continuously) since 1970, 1971 and 1973, respectively. The various lineups of the band have consisted of both British, American, and European musicians. European Express Tour
The European Express Tour was the European leg of Elton John's 1984 Breaking Hearts Tour. Background The European Express Tour, which was a continuation of the Too Low for Zero Tour of Oceania took place across three months during the summer of 1984. The tour included several countries that Elton and his band had not previously performed in. This included Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Italy, Austria and Spain. The tour came to an end at London's Wembley Stadium on 30 June 1984. This concert was recorded for broadcast on the U.S. Showtime cable network and Britain's BBC Radio 1. Breaking Hearts Tour was the North American leg of the Elton John Breaking Hearts Tour. The European leg was dubbed " European Express". The tour started on 17 August 1984, at Tempe, Arizona. It included five sold-out concerts in New York City performed at Madison Square Garden. It began in Allentown, Pennsylvania, US, on 8 September 2018, and ended in Stockholm, Sweden, on 8 July 2023. It consisted of 330 concerts worldwide. Gus Dudgeon
Angus Boyd "Gus" Dudgeon (30 September 1942 – 21 July 2002) was an English record producer, who oversaw many of Elton John's most acclaimed recordings, including his commercial breakthrough, " Your Song". Their collaboration led to seven US No. 1 albums, and established John as one of the most successful singles artists of the 1970s. Dudgeon also produced Chris Rea's first hit, the US chart topping " Fool (If You Think It's Over)", and David Bowie's " Space Oddity", and steered many other artists to chart success, including Joan Armatrading and Elkie Brooks. Ray Cooper
Raymond Cooper (born 19 September 1947) is an English musician who has worked as a session and road-tour percussionist. During his career, Cooper has worked and toured with numerous musically diverse bands and artists including Elton John (as a duo and as a member of his band), Harry Nilsson, Billy Joel, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Roger Waters and Art Garfunkel. Cooper absorbed the influence of rock drummers from the 1960s and 1970s such as Ginger Baker, Carmine Appice and John Bonham. ''Victim of Love'' is the thirteenth studio album by English musician Elton John. It is a disco album, released in 1979 shortly after the peak of disco's popularity. It was not critically or commercially well-received, and is John's third lowest charting album to date in the US, after 1986's '' Leather Jackets'' and 1985's '' Ice on Fire''. The title track of the album, however, was moderately successful as a single. It reached No. 31 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, No. 38 in Australia and No. 46 in Canada. ''Songs from the West Coast'' is the twenty-sixth studio album by English musician Elton John, released worldwide on 1 October 2001. Background For this album, Elton John once again collaborated with long-time lyricist Bernie Taupin, marking the first time the pair had written together in person. Patrick Leonard produced the album and played keyboards on several songs, as was the case for '' The Road to El Dorado'' soundtrack, released the year before. ''Reg Strikes Back'' is the twenty-first studio album by English musician Elton John, released in 1988. It was his self-proclaimed comeback album, and his own way of fighting back against bad press. The "Reg" in ''Reg Strikes Back'' refers to John's birth name, Reginald Kenneth Dwight. In the US, the album was certified gold in August 1988 by the RIAA. It was also John's third studio album in the 1980s to be placed inside the top 20 of US ''Billboard'' 200 (number 16, 1988).
