A mind sport, is a game of skill based on intellectual ability. Etymology The first major use of the term was as a result of the Mind Sports Olympiad in 1997. The phrase had been used prior to this event such as backgammon being described as a mind sport by Tony Buzan in 1996; Tony Buzan was also a co-founder of the Mind Sports Olympiad. Bodies such as the World Memory Sports Council use the term retrospectively. It is a term that became fixed from games trying to obtain equal status to sports. Darcy Lima
Darcy Gustavo Machado Vieira Lima (born 22 May 1962) is a Brazilian chess player. FIDE awarded him the International Master title in 1989 and the Grandmaster title in 1997. Also a chess official, Lima was granted the titles of FIDE Trainer in 2010 and FIDE International Organizer in 2013. He was the president of the Brazilian Chess Confederation from 1999 - 2004 and then from 2013 - 2020. Chess career In 1980 Lima won the Brazilian junior championship in Fortaleza. He won the Brazilian Chess Championship three times (1992, 2002, 2003). Lima won the South American zonal tournament at São Paulo twice, in 2000 and 2003. Jaime Sunye Neto
Jaime Sunye Neto (born May 2, 1957) is a Brazilian chess player. Awarded the International Master title in 1980 and the Grandmaster title in 1986, he was Brazilian champion seven times, in 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983 (jointly with Marcos Paolozzi). Sunye Neto was also president of the Brazilian Chess Confederation from 1988 to 1992. In 1979 he was invited to play in the Interzonal in Rio de Janeiro as a second representative of the host nation. Untitled at the time, he delivered one of the best performances of his career, finishing fifth overall and defeating several grandmasters, including the tournament winner Lajos Portisch.
