Brazil International Championships
The Brazilian International Championships was a tennis tournament held in Brazil sporadically from 1932 to 1969. The tournament began in 1932 and was part of a South American circuit that included the Argentina International Championships and Chile International Championships. The event petered out in the late 1950s. Among the winners of the event were Manuel Alonso Areizaga, Don McNeill, Budge Patty, Fausto Gardini, Luis Ayala and Jan Kodeš. Later in the open era a new successor women's tournament was revived called the WTA Brasil Open The WTA Brasil Open was founded in 1977 as the successor event to the earlier Brazilian International Championships (1932–1969). The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the Sports governing body, governing body of world tennis, wheelchair tennis, and beach tennis. Franjo Punčec
Franjo Punčec (; 25 November 1913 – 5 January 1985) was a Yugoslav tennis player. He played for the Yugoslavian team at the International Lawn Tennis Challenge from 1933 to 1946. Early life and family Punčec started playing tennis at the Čakovec sports club and was coached by Géza Legenstein. He was crowned junior champion of Yugoslavia in 1931. He celebrated his first international match win at the 1931 Hungarian International Championships, over Wilhelm Brosch of Austria, at the age of 17. Though he lost in the second round in singles and first round of mixed doubles, he reached the quarterfinals of the doubles. He was asked to be a line judge at the 1931 Davis Cup tie against Japan Davis Cup team in Zagreb. He then joined the CWC Concordia Zagreb tennis club. Sven Viktor Davidson (13 July 1928 – 28 May 2008) was a Sweden, Swedish tennis player who became the first Swede to win a Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam title when he won the French Championships in 1957 French Championships – Men's singles, 1957, beating Ashley Cooper (tennis), Ashley Cooper and Herbert Flam. Nicola "Nicky" Pietrangeli (; born 11 September 1933) is an Italian former tennis player. He won two singles titles at the French Championships and is considered by many to be one of Italy's greatest tennis champions. Biography Nicola Chirinsky Pietrangeli was born 11 September 1933, in Tunis, then a French colony, to a father also born in Tunis but of Italian parents from Abruzzo and Campania, and to a Russian mother whose father was Danish. Pietrangeli made his international debut at the 1952 Italian Open, losing in fours sets to Jacques Peten. He appeared in four men's singles finals at Roland Garros – winning the title in 1959 and 1960, and finishing runner-up in 1961 and 1964. He also won the Roland Garros men's doubles title in 1959 (together with Orlando Sirola), and the mixed doubles in 1958. Giuseppe Merlo
Giuseppe "Beppe" Merlo (11 October 1927 – 17 July 2019) was an Italian tennis player. Merlo reached the semifinals of French Championships in 1955 (losing to Sven Davidson) and 1956 (losing to Lew Hoad). Art Larsen
Arthur David "Art" or "Tappy" Larsen (April 17, 1925 – December 7, 2012) was a U.S. tennis player in the 1940s and 1950s. He was the world No. 3 tennis player in the rankings by John Olliff and Pierre Gillou for 1950 and the U.S. No. 1 male tennis player in the USLTA rankings for 1950. He won the "Times" national sports award for the outstanding tennis player of 1950. Larsen was ranked among the world top ten male tennis players in expert rankings for 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, and 1954. Larsen was the first player to win all of the USLTA (USTA) national tennis titles, the U.S. Open (grass), the U.S. Clay Court (clay), the U.S. Hardcourt (cement), and the U.S. National Indoor (indoor). Armando Vieira (11 April 1923 – 14 January 2010) was a Brazilian tennis player. His best achievement was reaching quarterfinals of the 1951 Wimbledon Championships. In June 1951 he won the singles title at the Dutch International Championships after defeating Felicisimo Ampon in the final in three straight sets. Enrique Jorge Morea (11 April 1924 – 15 March 2017) was an Argentine tennis player. Morea reached the singles semifinals of the French Championships in 1953, beating Mervyn Rose and Gardnar Mulloy and then losing to Ken Rosewall.
