Bray–Hoffman House
The Bray–Hoffman House is a historic Federal style brick house located at 39 Sand Hill Road near the community of Annandale in Clinton Township of Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. Built around 1800 by John Bray, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 25, 1973, for its significance in architecture and military history. With The two and one-half story house has a gambrel roof. The brickwork on the east and north sides uses Flemish bond, the other sides use English bond. According to the nomination form, it is the third oldest brick house in the county. John Bray is noted for fighting alongside his father and his son at the Battle of Monmouth during the American Revolutionary War. Clinton Township is a township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The township is in the Raritan Valley region and is located in the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 13,478, reflecting an increase of 521 (+4.0%) from the 12,957 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 2,141 (+19.8%) from the 10,816 counted in the 1990 Census. Clinton Township was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 12, 1841, from portions of Lebanon Township, based on the results of a referendum held that same day. Battle Of Monmouth
The Battle of Monmouth, also known as the Battle of Monmouth Court House, was fought near Monmouth Court House in modern-day Freehold Borough, New Jersey on June 28, 1778, during the American Revolutionary War. It pitted the Continental Army, commanded by General George Washington, against the British Army in North America, commanded by General Sir Henry Clinton. It was the last battle of the Philadelphia campaign, begun the previous year, during which the British had inflicted two major defeats on Washington and occupied Philadelphia. Washington had spent the winter at Valley Forge rebuilding his army and defending his position against political enemies who favored his replacement as commander-in-chief. In February 1778, the French-American Treaty of Alliance tilted the strategic balance in favor of the Americans, forcing the British to abandon hopes of a military victory and adopt a defensive strategy.
