Brave Raj Stakes
The Brave Raj Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in late September at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens, Florida. Open to two-year-old fillies, it is raced over a distance of one mile and seventy yards. The race currently offers a purse of $90,000 and the winner often will run in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. First run in 1975, the race was previously known as the Gardenia Stakes until 1996 when it became the Jack Smallwood Stakes for 1997 and 1998. Calder Race Course
Calder Casino is a casino located in Miami Gardens, Florida. It includes slots, electronic table games, and bingo. The casino opened in 2010 and features a gaming floor with 1,100 slot machines, including video poker, as well as electronic roulette and blackjack. Miami Gardens is a city in north-central Miami-Dade County, Florida. Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies
The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies is a -mile thoroughbred horse race on dirt (although the distance has varied, depending on the configuration of the host track) for two-year-old fillies run annually since 1984 at a different racetrack in the United States or Canada as part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships in early November. Automatic Berths Beginning in 2007, the Breeders' Cup developed "The Breeders' Cup Challenge," a series of races in each division that allotted automatic qualifying bids to winners of defined races. The American Champion Two-Year-Old Filly is an American Thoroughbred horse racing honor awarded annually to a female horse in Thoroughbred flat racing. It became part of the Eclipse Awards program in 1971. The award originated in 1936 when both the ''Daily Racing Form'' (DRF) and Turf and Sports Digest (TSD) magazine began naming an annual champion. Starting in 1950, the Thoroughbred Racing Associations (TRA) began naming its own champion. The following list provides the name of the horses chosen by both of these organizations. There were several disagreements, with more than one champion being recognized on seven occasions. The ''Daily Racing Form'', the Thoroughbred Racing Associations, and the National Turf Writers Association all joined forces in 1971 to create the Eclipse Award. Kathleen O'Connell (trainer)
Kathleen O'Connell (5 October 1888 – 7 April 1956) was an Irish republican activist and Éamon de Valera's personal secretary. Early life Kathleen O'Connell was born Catherine O'Connell at Caherdaniel, County Kerry on 5 October 1888. She was one of eleven children of farmer John O'Connell and Mary Ann O'Connell (née O'Sullivan). She was educated in County Kerry, and emigrated to Chicago in 1904 where she trained to be a secretary. She left a well-paid commercial job in 1912 to become secretary to the American delegation of the Gaelic League in New York. She worked closely with Thomas Ashe and Diarmuid Lynch on fund-raising and handled their secret IRB correspondence.
