Braun German Open
The German Open was a men's golf tournament. It was first staged in 1911 when the winner was Harry Vardon. The following year the champion was another of the Great Triumvirate of late 19th and early 20th century British golfers, John Henry Taylor. The tournament was then not played again for over a decade. It was played each year from 1926 to 1939; Percy Alliss won five times in this era, Auguste Boyer four times and Henry Cotton three. History After World War II the event was not revived until 1951. It was a European Tour event from the tour's first official season in 1972 until 1999. It was played on many different courses around Germany; the last two stagings on the European Tour were at Sporting Club Berlin. It first had a title sponsor in 1978 and there were several different sponsors over the following two decades. PGA European Tour
The European Tour, currently titled as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, and legally the PGA European Tour or the European Tour Group, is the leading men's professional golf tour in Europe. The organisation also operates the European Senior Tour (for players aged 50 or older) and the developmental Challenge Tour; the second tier of men's professional golf in Europe. The tour's headquarters are at Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey, England. The European Tour was established by the British-based Professional Golfers' Association through the 1970s, and responsibility was transferred to an independent PGA European Tour organisation in 1984. Ignacio Garrido
Ignacio Garrido (born 27 March 1972) is a Spanish professional golfer who won twice on the European Tour. Garrido was born in Madrid. He is the eldest son of Antonio Garrido who won five times on the European Tour and also played in the 1979 Ryder Cup. His uncle, Germán Garrido, also has won on the European Tour. Professional career Garrido turned professional in 1993 and after playing the Challenge Tour that year, he joined the European Tour in 1994. His best year on the Tour was 1997, when he finished sixth on the Order of Merit. Garrido and his father were the first father and son combination to have won on the European Tour since it began in 1972. Stephen Allan
Stephen Douglas Allan (born 18 October 1973) is an Australian professional golfer. Early life In 1973, Allan was born in Melbourne, Victoria. His parents emigrated from Edinburgh, Scotland three years before he was born. Professional career Allan turned professional in 1996 and was a member of the European Tour from 1997 to 2000. In 1998, his second season in Europe, he won the German Open and finished sixteenth on the Order of Merit, and that remains his most successful year. His other professional win came in his home country, at the 2002 Australian Open. From 2001 to 2005 he was a member of the U.S.-based PGA Tour, with his best finishes being second placings at the Greater Milwaukee Open in 2003, and the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2004. 1998 European Tour
The 1998 European Tour, titled as the 1998 PGA European Tour, was the 27th season of the European Tour, the main professional golf tour in Europe since its inaugural season in 1972. Changes for 1998 For the first time the schedule included the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open and PGA Championship, although winnings did not count towards the Order of Merit. There were several changes from the previous season with the addition of the Qatar Masters, the return of the Belgian Open and the loss of the Dimension Data Pro-Am. In March, the Chemapol Trophy Czech Open was cancelled in the wake of severe floods across the country in July 1997; it was later replaced on the schedule by the German Open. Retief Goosen
Retief Goosen (born 3 February 1969) is a South African professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour Champions. He has won two U.S. Opens, in 2001 and 2004, headed the European Tour Order of Merit in 2001 and 2002, and was in the top ten of the world rankings for over 250 weeks between 2001 and 2007. Miguel Ángel Jiménez Rodríguez (born 5 January 1964) is a Spanish professional golfer. He has won 21 times on the European Tour, holds the records for the most starts on the European Tour and being the first player over 50 to win on the European Tour (2014 Open de Espana at age 50 years and 133 days) and has been a member of two victorious Ryder Cup teams. The BMW International Open is an annual men's professional golf tournament on the European Tour held in Germany. History Founded in 1989, it was held near BMW's home city of Munich every year until 2012. Deutsche Bank-SAP Open TPC Of Europe
The Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe was an annual 72-hole stroke play professional golf tournament for men. It was last played in Germany and was part of the European Tour schedule. The tournament was founded in 1992 as the Honda Open and acquired the tag of The Players Championship of Europe or TPC of Europe in 1995. It was last played at Gut Kaden. The prize fund in 2007 was €3.6 million, which put it in the top group of European Tour events outside the major championships and World Golf Championships, but not at the head of the list. The parallels between this tournament and the PGA Tour's Players Championship are not very strong. The European Players Championship was not the richest event on the European Tour and it was not played close to the Tour's headquarters.
