The Bratislava Monarchs are an American football team from Bratislava, Slovakia, established in 1996. In 2023, the Monarchs are competing in the Czech League of American Football. History Establishment The interest in American football in Slovakia grew rapidly after the first television broadcasts of the National Football League season in 1993. The first meetings of several people who threw football began in the summer of 1994 in Bratislava. The number of new players each week increased, and at the end of the year was over 30 people. The club was officially founded on April 1, 1996, and was the very first American football club in Slovakia. Shortly thereafter, all major cities in Slovakia started with the establishment of new clubs. The first game of the Monarchs was played in the spring of 2004 with helmets and shoulder pads, against the Kragujevac Wild Boars, which they won. Czech League Of American Football
The Czech League of American Football (ČLAF) (), known as the Snapbacks liga for sponsorship reasons, is a national American football competition in the Czech Republic. First held in 1994, it is organised by the (ČAAF). Seasonal structure Divisions Next to the "Paddock League" which is the first Division in Czech American Football there is in 2019; 5 more Divisions in Men's and 1 Division in Ladies' Football. Ljubljana Silverhawks
The Ljubljana Silverhawks were an American football team based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, founded in 2002 by a group of football fans from the Slovenian capital. The team won the Slovenian Football League a record six times (2009–10, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2017). They also won the Central European Football League in 2012. Various sports and sports teams have a long tradition in Bratislava, with many sport teams and individuals competing in the best Slovak and international Sports league, leagues and competitions. The Danube Dragons founded in 1985 (until 1999 as Klosterneuburg Mercenaries) are a 3-time AFL-champion American football club based in Vienna, Austria. History Under the name ''Klosterneuburg Mercenaries'' the Dragons were among the first American football teams in Austria and ascended up to the Austrian Football League, the highest league in Austria. During the 1990s they advanced into 2 Austrian Bowls (1990 and 1997), but they lost both against Graz Giants. In 2000 they changed their name into ''Danube Dragons''. They have moved from Klosterneuburg into Korneuburg in 2008, and into Vienna in 2012 (playing in FC Stadlau field).
