Branson Deen
Branson Milan Deen (born February 12, 2000) is an American professional football defensive tackle. He played college football for the Purdue Boilermakers and Miami Hurricanes. Early life Deen was born on February 12, 2000, and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Lawrence Central High School in Indiana, where he played football and recorded 42 tackles as a senior. A three-star recruit, he committed to play college football for the Purdue Boilermakers. College career As a freshman at Purdue in 2018, Deen redshirted. He then appeared in nine games in 2019, totaling eight tackles, and six games in 2020, making 12 tackles and a sack while starting four games. He remained a starter in 2021, being named honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference after recording 26 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss (TFLs), 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble. A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that typically lines up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the Guard (American football), offensive guards; however, he may also line up opposite one of the offensive Tackle (gridiron football position), tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section). A fumble in gridiron football occurs when a player who has possession and control of the ball loses it before being downed (tackled), scoring, or going out of bounds. By rule, it is any act other than passing, kicking, punting, or successful handing that results in loss of ball possession by a player.
