Brandon Dickson
Brandon Lee Dickson (born November 3, 1984) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He previously played in Major League Baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals, and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Orix Buffaloes. Career St. Louis Cardinals Dickson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006, after attending Tusculum College. In 2006, playing for the New Market Rebels in the Valley Baseball League, Dickson had a league-leading and franchise record 13 saves, and led the league in wins, going 5-0 in 26 relief appearances. He made his professional debut with the Johnson City Cardinals. In 2007, with Single-A Quad Cities, Dickson‘s statline included an 11–7 win–loss record, with one save, and a 3.50 earned run average (ERA), in 31 games pitched (23 as a starting pitcher), covering 144 innings. Memphis Redbirds
The Memphis Redbirds are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League and the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. They are located in Memphis, Tennessee, and are named for their Major League Baseball affiliate. The Redbirds play their home games at AutoZone Park, which opened in 2000 and is located in Downtown Memphis. The team previously played at Tim McCarver Stadium in 1998 and 1999. In baseball, softball, and similar games, an inning is the basic unit of play, consisting of two halves or frames, the "top" (first half) and the "bottom" (second half). In each half, one team bats until three outs are made, with the other team playing defense. In baseball (hardball or softball), a starting pitcher or starter is the first pitcher in the game for each team. A pitcher is credited with a game started if they throw the first pitch to the opponent's first batter of a game. In baseball statistics, earned run average (ERA) is the average of earned runs allowed by a pitcher per nine innings pitched (i.e. the traditional length of a game). Johnson City Cardinals
The Johnson City Cardinals were a Minor League Baseball team based in Johnson City, Tennessee. The team was affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1975 through 2020 and played in the Rookie-level Appalachian League. The team won 10 league championships, most recently in 2019. They played their home games at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. Before 1975, the team operated under several other names and affiliations. The start of the 2020 season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic before ultimately being cancelled on June 30. The Valley Baseball League is an NCAA and MLB-sanctioned collegiate summer baseball league in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. The league was started in 1923 and sanctioned by the NCAA in 1961. It has been a wooden bat league since 1993. It is one of almost a dozen leagues in the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball. The VBL is funded in part by a grant from Major League Baseball. The Valley League has produced well over 1,000 professional baseball players, including a record 79 former players drafted in the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. In 2007, the Valley Baseball League expanded to include one new team with the addition of the Fauquier Gators.
