Brandon Cambridge
Akeil Omari Brandon Cambridge (born February 9, 2002) is an American professional soccer player who plays for Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC. Early life Cambridge was born in Brooklyn, New York, to South African parents but moved to Cape Town, South Africa with his family when he was one month old. When he was nine, he moved to Florida, before moving to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan in Canada at age ten, and then Chilliwack, British Columbia at age eleven. He played youth soccer with Fraser Valley Premier, before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy in January 2018. He had previously trained with Abbotsford United in 2017. Homegrown Player Rule (MLS)
The Homegrown Player Rule is a Major League Soccer program that allows MLS teams to sign local players from their own development academies directly to MLS first team rosters. Before the creation of the rule in 2008, every player entering Major League Soccer would have to be assigned through one of the existing MLS player allocation processes, such as the MLS SuperDraft. MLS roster rules allow a team to sign players to contracts similar to Generation adidas contracts, which do not count against the MLS salary budget and may earn a much higher salary than the league minimum. MLS has since removed this wording from the roster rules. That means homegrown players will not count against the salary budget only if they are registered using supplemental roster slots, but will still count against the salary budget if they are registered using senior roster slots. The Santa Clara Broncos men's soccer program represents Santa Clara University in all NCAA Division I men's college soccer competitions. Founded in 1967, the Broncos compete in the West Coast Conference. The Broncos are coached by Cameron Rast, who has coached the program since 2002.
