A branding iron is used for livestock branding, branding, pressing a heated metal shape against an object or livestock with the intention of leaving an identifying mark. History The history of branding is very much tied to the history of using animals as a commodity. The act of marking livestock with fire-heated marks to identify ownership begins in ancient times with the ancient Egyptians. A fire ship or fireship is a large wooden vessel set on fire to be used against enemy ships during a ramming attack or similar maneuver. Fireships were used to great effect against wooden ships throughout naval military history up until the advent of metal-hulled ships; they could also serve a considerable function in shock and awe strategies to harm the morale of enemy crews. Ships used for fireship tactics were typically purpose-built or retrofitted from surplus or obsolete vessels, either of which could be filled with gunpowder or other combustibles before a battle, but could also be improvised from warships in active combat purposely set on fire during engagements, such as if a vessel expended its munitions or had some other reason to be abandoned in battle. Georg Friedrich Brander
Georg Friedrich Brander (* 28. November 1713 in Regensburg; † 1. April 1783 in Augsburg) was an important maker of scientific instruments. Early years Brander was born 1713 to Georg Brandner, an apothecary with roots in Nuremberg, and Sibylla Katharina Brandner (widowed Pfaffreuter, 1678–1756) from a Regensburg goldsmith family. He studied in Altdorf bei Nürnberg from 1731 to 1734 mathematics and physics under the supervision of Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr. Professional work In 1734 he moved to Augsburg (Germany), where he founded a workshop for fine mechanics. He was supported by local financier Josef von Halder with capital and in establishing a business network. Brander was the first one in Germany to build a mirror telescope in 1737. Since 1754 the workshop has produced also microscopes, and the high-resolution micrometer glass rulers were its speciality. Gustavus Brander
Gustavus Brander FRS (172021 January 1787), an English naturalist who came from a Swedish family, was born in London in 1720. He was brought up as a merchant, in which capacity he achieved success and became a director of the Bank of England. His leisure time was occupied in scientific pursuits, and at his country residence at Christchurch in Hampshire he became interested in the fossils so abundant in the clays of Hordwell and Barton. A set of these was presented by him to the British Museum, and they were described by Daniel Solander in the beautifully illustrated work entitled ''Fossilia Hantoniensia collecta, et in Musaeo Britannico deposita a Gustavo Brander'' (London, 1766). Brander was elected Fellow of the Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1754, and he was also a trustee of the British Museum. Jarrod Brander is a former professional Australian rules footballer for the Greater Western Sydney Giants, having been initially drafted to the West Coast Eagles. Brander made his debut in round 13, 2018 against the Sydney Swans at the SCG. Brander Craighead (born September 8, 1990) is a Canadian former professional football offensive lineman who played two seasons for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was selected by the Stampeders in the first round of the 2013 CFL draft after playing college football at the University of Texas at El Paso. Early life Craighead played lacrosse at Mother Teresa High School in Nepean, Ontario. The Titan's did not have a football team. The Pass of Brander is a mountain pass in the Highlands of Scotland, where the main railway and road to Oban makes its way between Ben Cruachan, Cruachan, a mountain, and Loch Awe.
