Bram Buijs
Abraham Buijs (7 September 1923 – 4 January 1987) was a Dutch trade unionist and politician. Born in Arnemuiden, Buijs became a carpenter and joined the General Dutch Construction Union (ANB). He also joined the Labour Party, winning election to the local council in Vlissingen in 1949. In 1954, he became secretary of the ANB's Amsterdam branch, and in 1964 he became its president. As leader of the union, he took it into successive mergers, forming the General Dutch Union of Building and Wood Industries, and then the Construction and Wood Union. General Dutch Construction Union
The General Dutch Construction Union ( nl, Algemeen Nederlandsche Bond van Bouwbedrijfsbond, ANB) was a trade union representing workers in the construction industry in the Netherlands. The union was founded on 11 January 1920, when the General Dutch Carpenters' Union merged with the Central Union of Building Workers, establishing the General Dutch Building Workers' Union. On formation, it had 21,678 members. Like both its forerunners, it affiliated to the Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions (NVV). In 1941, the Dutch Painters' Assistants' Union and the General Dutch Plasterers' Union both merged in. In 1951, the NVV reorganised its affiliates, to form industrial unions. The union began representing office workers in the construction industry, and in 1952 adopted its final name. By 1969, the union had 86,932 members. Vlissingen (; zea, label= Zeelandic, Vlissienge), historically known in English as Flushing, is a municipality and a city in the southwestern Netherlands on the former island of Walcheren. The General Dutch Union of the Building and Wood Industries ( nl, Algemene Nederlandse Bond voor de Bouw- en Houtnijverheid, ANBH) was a trade union representing workers in the construction and wood industries in the Netherlands. The union was founded on 1 January 1970, when the General Dutch Construction Union merged with the General Industrial Union of Furniture Makers and Woodworkers. Like both its predecessors, it affiliated to the Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions (NVV). By 1980, the union had 95,090 members, of whom, 89% worked in construction, and the remainder in woodworking and furniture making. The union began working closely with the Dutch Catholic Union of the Building and Wood Industries, forming a loose federation in 1973, and a more formal one in 1976, through which both unions then channeled all their activities. Konrad Carl
Konrad Carl (born 20 January 1930) is a German people, German former trade union leader. Born in Fürth, Carl completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter, and joined both the Social Democratic Party (Germany), Social Democratic Party and the Building and Construction Union (IG BSE). With the encouragement of the union, he studied at the Dortmund Social Academy, and then became the union's full-time managing director for the Regensburg district. In 1961, Carl was elected as chair of the union's Bavarian region, and in 1968 he was elected to the union's national executive taking the lead on human resources and legal matters. The following year, he became vice president of the union, working under Rudolf Sperner. In 1982, Carl was elected as president of IG BSE, winning 319 out of 354 delegate votes.
