Brainlove Records was a British independent record label with a DIY ethic, based in London, England. The label released experimental independent music, indie, pop music, pop and electronic music, electronic music. Brainlove Records received positive press from media sources such as ''NME'' ("relentlessly brilliant"), BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music. Brainlove also ran live shows, including showcases at SPOT Festival in Denmark and Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavík, as well as club nights with White Heat, Club NME at Koko (venue), Koko and La Route Du Rock, and a two-day label music festival, held annually at the The Windmill, Brixton, Brixton Windmill. The label published an article on its early history in ''The Quietus'' in August 2010. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. In later years, the definition of ''indie pop'' has bifurcated to also mean bands from unrelated DIY scenes/movements with pop leanings. Subgenres include chamber pop and twee pop. Penny Broadhurst
Penny Broadhurst (born 21 October 1980 in Harrogate, Yorkshire), was a British pop singer, songwriter, writer and spoken word artist from the north of England. She listed Kate Bush, ''Doctor Who'', Prefab Sprout, Lloyd Cole, Belle & Sebastian, Kirsty MacColl and The Smiths among her many influences. She ceased all use of this name for creative work in late 2009 and has changed her name in private life. Misty's Big Adventure are an English eight-piece band from Birmingham. Their music is an eclectic mix of jazz, lounge, psychedelia, 2 tone, pop and punk. The band is composed of singer and sole songwriter Grandmaster Gareth (real name Gareth Jones), drummer Sam Minnear, bassist Matt Jones, guitarist Jonathan Kedge, trumpet player Hannah Baines, saxophone player Lucy Baines, keyboardist Lucy Bassett and dancer Erotic Volvo. Drummer Sam Minnear's father is Kerry Minnear, who played keyboards, cello and vibes for British progressive rock band Gentle Giant during the 1970s. Fosca (band)
Fosca was a British band, combining indie pop songwriting with synthpop instrumentation. Initially, the band was formed by bassist Peter Theobalds and Orlando guitarist/lyricist Dickon Edwards plus Orlando drummer David Gray, before settling into being a vehicle for Edwards and his songs. Over the next decade, Edwards fronted several (predominantly female) lineups of the band including guitarist Charley Stone (formerly of Gay Dad). Chicks on Speed is a feminist music and fine art ensemble, formed in Munich in 1997, after members Australian Alex Murray-Leslie and American Melissa Logan met at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. David Thomas Broughton
David Thomas Broughton (, born 20 March 1981) is an English folk/avant-garde singer and guitarist. Born in Otley, West Yorkshire, he creates the sound of a large ensemble by sampling himself singing, playing acoustic guitar, and making an assortment of other sounds through a Boss loop pedal. He also uses various non-traditional musical instruments to augment his songs, including radios, personal attack alarms and televisions, and occasionally incorporates a use of natural field recordings into his music. He is also known for his love of spontaneity and musical improvisation, recording albums in one take (allowing recording faults to remain) and beginning live performances with no clear plan in mind.
