Brain Storm Optimization
The brain storm optimization algorithm is a heuristic algorithm that focuses on solving multi-modal problems, such as radio antennas design worked on by Yahya Rahmat-Samii, inspired by the brainstorming process, proposed by Dr. Yuhui Shi. More than 200 papers related to BSO algorithms have appeared in various journals and conferences. There have also been special issues and special sessions on Brain Storm Optimization algorithm in journals and various conferences, such as Memetic Computing Journal. There are a number of variants of the algorithms as well, such as Hypo Variance Brain Storm Optimization, where the object function evaluation is based on the hypo or sub variance rather than Gaussian variance, and Global-best Brain Storm Optimization, where the global-best incorporates a re-initialization scheme that is triggered by the current state of the population, combined with per-variable updates and fitness-based grouping. Heuristic Algorithm
A heuristic or heuristic technique (''problem solving'', '' mental shortcut'', ''rule of thumb'') is any approach to problem solving that employs a pragmatic method that is not fully optimized, perfected, or rationalized, but is nevertheless "good enough" as an approximation or attribute substitution. Where finding an optimal solution is impossible or impractical, heuristic methods can be used to speed up the process of finding a satisfactory solution. Heuristics can be mental shortcuts that ease the cognitive load of making a decision. Context Gigerenzer & Gaissmaier (2011) state that sub-sets of ''strategy'' include heuristics, regression analysis, and Bayesian inference. Brainstorming is a creativity technique in which a group of people interact to divergent thinking, suggest ideas spontaneously in response to a prompt. Yuhui Shi
Yuhui Shi is a pioneer in particle swarm optimization algorithms and the developer of brain storm optimization algorithms. He was an electrical engineer from Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou, China, where he was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2016 for his contributions to particle swarm optimization algorithms. He earned his PhD in electrical engineering from Southeast University, Nanjing, China in 1992, and was trained as a Post Doc Fellow at Concordia University under Canadian International Development Agency joint doctoral program, initiated by Prof. Jeremiah F. Hayes et al. In computational science, particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a computational method that Mathematical optimization, optimizes a problem by iterative method, iteratively trying to improve a candidate solution with regard to a given measure of quality.
