Brafferton And Helperby
Brafferton and Helperby is a civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. Up until 2019, both Brafferton and Helperby were in their own civil parishes, but a vote, and then later an order was convened, to amalgamate the two into one parish covering both villages. History The ancient (ecclesiastical) parish of Brafferton, also included Helperby within the parish domain. When civil parishes were introduced, the two villages were separated out, but are a contiguous settlement with Brafferton at the north end, and Helperby at the south end. On 1 April 2019, the two parishes were combined into one civil parish – Brafferton and Helperby, with seven elected council members. Previous to this, each council had five members. North Yorkshire is the largest ceremonial county (lieutenancy area) in England, covering an area of . Hambleton is a Non-metropolitan district, local government district in North Yorkshire, England. The administrative centre is Northallerton, and the district includes the outlying towns and villages of Bedale, Thirsk, Great Ayton, Stokesley, and Easingwold. Brafferton, North Yorkshire
Brafferton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Brafferton and Helperby, in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 257, increasing to 311 at the 2011 Census. On 1 April 2019 the parish was merged with Helperby to form Brafferton and Helperby. The village is situated about ten miles south of Thirsk, on the River Swale. It is contiguous with the village of Helperby, one street has properties in one village on one side and the other opposite. The village takes its name from a ford across the Swale, it being originally Broad-Ford-Town, and now by contraction, Brafferton. The parish church of St Peter's was built in the 15th century, modified in 1826 by the architect James Pritchett and restored in 1878. It is a grade II* listed building. Helperby
Helperby is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Brafferton and Helperby, in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England, about five miles west of Easingwold. Over the years it has joined onto Brafferton. On 1 April 2019 the parish was merged with Brafferton to form "Brafferton and Helperby". Helperby has the Millennium Village Hall, a butcher's shop, a doctor's surgery and a mobile bakery and post office (open only on specific days). There are two pubs, one a restaurant with rooms, one a village inn, and a disused Methodist Chapel which is now a house. In 2008 Helperby had a new pavilion at the football and cricket pitch. Thornton Bridge
Thornton Bridge is a civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, situated between Boroughbridge to the south-west, and Thirsk to the north-east. The parish has no major settlements, just a few cottages clustered around the old manor of Thornton Bridge. History Thornton Bridge was a township in the parish of Brafferton, but became its own civil parish in 1866. It was historically in the wapentakes of either Hallikeld or Bulmer, and in the historic county of the North Riding of Yorkshire. North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) is the county council governing the non-metropolitan county of North Yorkshire; an area composing most of North Yorkshire in England.
