Brady Bowman
Brady Bowman is an associate professor of philosophy at Penn State University. His specialization is classical German philosophy, mostly Hegel, but also the period’s other major figures, specially Jacobi and Schelling, as well as relevant early modern thinkers such as Descartes and Spinoza. He is the vice-president of the International Hegel Society and co-editor (with Birgit Sandkaulen) of the journal Hegel-Studien. Life and works Bowman received his first degree in philosophy and modern German literature from the Freie Universität Berlin. He earned his doctorate from the same University, by defending his dissertation "''Sinnliche Gewißheit : zur systematischen Vorgeschichte eines Problems des deutschen Idealismus''" in 2001. From 2000–2007 he was part of a DFG-funded Sonderforschungsbereich (collaborative research center) called “Ereignis Weimar-Jena: Kultur um 1800”, at the University of Jena. Western philosophy refers to the Philosophy, philosophical thought, traditions and works of the Western world. Terry Pinkard
Terry P. Pinkard (born 1947) is an American philosopher and Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at Georgetown University. His research and teaching focus on the German tradition in philosophy from Kant to the present. In addition to his own thought, Pinkard is a "noted Hegel scholar" whose translation of Hegel's ''The Phenomenology of Spirit'' is "accomplished" and "admirably clear." Education and career Pinkard earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and his Ph.D. from Stony Brook University with the dissertation, ''The Foundations of Transcendental Idealism: Kant, Hegel, Husserl''. John McDowell
John Henry McDowell (born 7 March 1942) is a South African philosopher, formerly a fellow of University College, Oxford, and now university professor at the University of Pittsburgh. Although he has written on metaphysics, epistemology, ancient philosophy, Nature (philosophy), nature, and meta-ethics, McDowell's most influential work has been in the philosophy of mind and philosophy of language.
