Bradford Bulls (2012–)
The Bradford Bulls are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Bradford, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Bulls were announced on February 23, 2012, by the GMHL. They are the namesake of the old Bradford Bulls Junior C team that which became the Bradford Rattlers. The Ratters and Bulls play out of different arenas in Bradford, but gave the Rattlers a geographical rival. The Bradford Bulls first regular season game was on September 16, 2012, in Bradford, Ontario. The game was on the road against the cross-town rivals the Bradford Rattlers. The game resulted in a 6–2 loss for the Bulls but had its first goal in franchise history scored by Clint Zumer, and assisted by Justin Tucker. Bradford, Ontario
Bradford is the primary country urban area of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, Ontario, in Canada. It overlooks a farming community, known as The Holland Marsh, located on the Holland River that flows into Lake Simcoe. History The eastern boundary of Bradford is the Holland River, named for Samuel Holland, first Surveyor General of British North America, who passed this way on an exploration from Toronto to Balsam Lake, by way of Lake Simcoe, in 1791. For several years the Holland River and Lake Simcoe provided the only means of transportation. Holland Landing was the northern terminus of Yonge Street. The military route to Georgian Bay during the War of 1812 crossed Lake Simcoe to Kempenfelt Bay, then by the Nine Mile Portage to Willow Creek and the Nottawasaga River. The Parry Sound Islanders were a Junior ice hockey team based out of Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League. History In 2007, Ville-Marie first attempted to form a team in one of the established Ontario junior hockey leagues, making offers to both the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League and the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League. The GMHL turned down the offer due to their acceptance of a Temiscaming franchise that would have been compromised due to proximity. The NOJHL looked like they were going to accept the organization but the deal fell through in late summer. The NOJHL claimed that the Ville-Marie franchise would probably join in 2008. In summer 2008, the NOJHL made no mention of interest in a Ville-Marie franchise but courted the already established Temiscaming Royals of the GMHL. The Orangeville Ice Crushers were a junior ice hockey team based in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Orangeville Americans were announced in the spring of 2011 with the roster to be composed of only American players. On September 12, 2011, the Americans played their first game at home against the Bradford Rattlers. The Rattlers won the game 5–2. During this game, the first Americans' goal was scored by 16-year-old Dominic Poya from Chicago. On September 19, the Americans won their first game 7–2 at home against the Shelburne Red Wings. On January 1, 2015, the club announced that RCR Entertainment had become the new team owners. The new ownership then renamed the team to the Orangeville Ice Crushers. The Toronto Blue Ice Jets were a Junior ice hockey team based out of Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. The team played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Jets were Thornhill's only Junior hockey team after the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League's Toronto Thunderbirds relocated to King City to become the Villanova Knights.
