Brace Yourself Games
''Crypt of the NecroDancer'' is a 2015 roguelike rhythm game created by Brace Yourself Games. The game takes fundamental elements of a roguelike dungeon exploration game and adds a beat-matching rhythm game set to an original soundtrack written by Danny Baranowsky. The player's actions are most effective when moving the character set to the beat of the current song and are impaired when they miss a beat, so it is necessary to learn the rhythmic patterns that the various creatures follow. The mixed-genre game includes the ability to import custom music, and the option to use a dance pad instead of traditional controllers or the keyboard. The game was released for Linux, OS X, and Windows in April 2015, being co-published by Klei Entertainment, for the PlayStation 4 and Vita in February 2016, for the Xbox One in February 2017, and for Nintendo Switch in February 2018. ''Crypt of the NecroDancer Pocket Edition'', developed for iOS, was released in June 2016. A crossover title, ''Ca ...

Dance Pad
A dance pad, also known as a dance mat or dance platform, is a flat electronic game controller used for input in dance games. Most dance pads are divided into a 3×3 matrix of square panels for the player to stand on, with some or all of the panels corresponding to directions or actions within the game. Some dance pads also have extra buttons outside the main stepping area, such as "Start" and "Select". Pairs of dance pads often are joined, side by side, for certain gameplay modes. Popular arcade games such as ''Dance Dance Revolution'', ''In the Groove (game), In the Groove'', ''Pump It Up (video game), Pump It Up'', and StepManiaX use large steel dance platforms connected to the arcade cabinet, whereas versions for home video game console, consoles usually use smaller (often flexible) plastic pads. These home pads are specifically made for systems such as the GameCube, Wii, Dreamcast (Japan only), PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and Xbox (console), Xbox, but can also be used in Pers ...

Game Programmer
A game programmer is a software engineer, programmer, or computer scientist who primarily develops codebases for video games or related software, such as game development tools. Game programming has many specialized disciplines, all of which fall under the umbrella term of "game programmer". A game programmer should not be confused with a game designer, who works on game design. History In the early days of video games (from the early 1970s to mid-1980s), a game programmer also took on the job of a designer and artist. This was generally because the abilities of early computers were so limited that having specialized personnel for each function was unnecessary. Game concepts were generally light and games were only meant to be played for a few minutes at a time, but more importantly, art content and variations in gameplay were constrained by computers' limited power. Later, as specialized arcade hardware and home systems became more powerful, game developers could develop d ...

Dead Ringer (idiom)
''Dead ringer'' is an idiom in English denoting a person or thing that closely resembles another. It dates back to the 19th century. In criminal slang, the practice of substituting a cheap item for a valuable one was known as ''ringing the changes'' (a phrase derived from campanology). Those who practised this confidence trick, con were known as ''ringers''. The term ''ringer'' was also used in horseracing, where it denoted someone who fraudently substituted one horse for another, as well as the horse that had been substituted. Subsequently, it came to be used for anything that resembled something else, often with the addition of the adjective ''dead'' (meaning "exact"). The idiom is sometimes said to derive, like ''List of sports idioms#saved by the bell, saved by the bell'', from a custom of providing bell-pulls in coffins so that people who had been Premature burial, buried alive could call for help, but this is a folk etymology. Citing the ''Manitoba Free Press'', October 1882 ...

''The'' is a grammatical article in English, denoting nouns that are already or about to be mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with nouns of any gender. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of the archaic pronoun '' the ...

Beat (music)
In music and music theory, the beat is the basic unit of time, the pulse (regularly repeating event), of the ''mensural level'' (or ''beat level''). The beat is often defined as the rhythm listeners would tap their toes to when listening to a piece of music, or the numbers a musician counts while performing, though in practice this may be technically incorrect (often the first multiple level). In popular use, ''beat'' can refer to a variety of related concepts, including pulse, tempo, meter, specific rhythms, and groove. Rhythm in music is characterized by a repeating sequence of stressed and unstressed beats (often called "strong" and "weak") and divided into bars organized by time signature and tempo indications. Beats are related to and distinguished from pulse, rhythm (grouping), and meter: Metric levels faster than the beat level are division levels, and slower levels are multiple levels. Beat has always been an important part of music. Some music genres such as ...
