Box Television
The Box Plus Network (formerly Video Jukebox Network International Ltd and Box Television Ltd) was a British television company owned by Channel Four Television Corporation, and specialising in music programming. Channel Four acquired a 50% share in Box Television (established 1992) in 2007, and gained full control in 2019. The five remaining channels closed on 30 June 2024. History The Box began as a cable television service in 1992, showing music videos. It was taken over by the publishing company Emap in the late 1990s, and began to broadcast via satellite and Freeview alongside other music channels which used Emap-owned brands. Emap sold its broadcasting business to Bauer Media in 2007, and a 50:50 joint venture was established between Bauer and Channel Four. E4 Extra is a British free-to-air television channel owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation. Launched on 29 June 2022, it is a sibling channel to E4 (TV channel), E4 and replaced 4Music, with the latter in turn replacing Box Hits which has shut down. Unlike Channel 4's other services, E4 Extra is not available for live streaming on Channel 4 (VoD service), Channel 4's streaming service. E4 Extra shows comedy and entertainment programming, along with repeats of some Channel 4 programmes. It had broadcast music programming in the mornings until April 2023. Freeview is the United Kingdom's sole Digital terrestrial television in the United Kingdom, digital terrestrial television platform. It is operated by Everyone TV and DTV Services Ltd, a joint venture between the BBC, ITV plc, ITV, Channel Four Television Corporation, Channel 4, Channel 5 Broadcasting Limited, 5 and Sky UK, Sky. It was launched on 30 October 2002, taking over the licence from ITV Digital which collapsed that year. Short Message Service, commonly abbreviated as SMS, is a text messaging service component of most telephone, Internet and mobile device systems.
