Bowling F.C. was an association football club from the village of Bowling, West Dunbartonshire, active in the 19th century. History The first record for the club is its playing in the Dumbartonshire Junior Cup in 1886–87. Its first appearance of note was entering the Dumbartonshire Cup in 1887–88, but Bowling scratched when paired with Dumbarton Athletic F.C., Dumbarton Athletic in the first round. The club took the bold step of joining the Scottish Football Association in August 1888, despite Dumbartonshire being the home of some of the strongest teams in the world at the time. The futility of such a step was demonstrated by its appearance in the 1888–89 Scottish Cup, losing 8–0 to Renton F.C., Renton, which had recently demonstrated a claim to be the 1888 World Championship (football), very strongest. Dumbarton (; also sco, Dumbairton; ) is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven flows into the Clyde estuary. In 2006, it had an estimated population of 19,990. Dumbarton was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde, and later the county town of Dunbartonshire. Dumbarton Castle, on top of Dumbarton Rock, dominates the area. Dumbarton was a Royal burgh between 1222 and 1975. Neil Kerr
Neil Kerr (13 April 1871 – 2 December 1901) was a Scottish footballer who played mainly as an outside right, for clubs including Rangers and Liverpool. He played for both clubs in their first seasons in the respective top divisions, featuring in every fixture for Rangers plus the championship play-off as they shared the 1890–91 Scottish Football League title with Dumbarton. He also won the Glasgow Cup with the ''Light Blues'' in 1893. He later re-joined the Govan club after spells with Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and non-league Falkirk, but was only a reserve in his second spell and featured in just four competitive matches, albeit one of these was in the semi-final second replay of the 1897–98 Scottish Cup, helping Rangers reach the final which they went on to win. Dunglass Castle
Dunglass Castle, situated in West Dunbartonshire on a rocky cliff overlooking the River Clyde, is a 14th-century ruinous castle. It was designated as a Category B listed building in 1971. It has been graded at high risk by the Buildings at Risk Register for Scotland. On its grounds stands the obelisk memorial to Henry Bell, an early steamship pioneer. History When built in 1380, Dunglass Castle served as the caput for the Barony of Colquohoun. The castle was attacked by Lord Fleming's soldiers from Dumbarton Castle in February 1569, but they were repulsed and Lord Fleming's half-brother was captured. It was ruinous by the 18th century and much of the castle and courtyard stone was taken in 1735 to use in repair of the quay following an order by the Commissioners of Supply. Kirkintilloch (; sco, Kirkintulloch; gd, Cair Cheann Tulaich) is a town and former barony burgh in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It lies on the Forth and Clyde Canal and on the south side of Strathkelvin, about northeast of central Glasgow. Historically part of Dunbartonshire, the town is the administrative home of East Dunbartonshire council area, its population in 2009 was estimated at 19,700 and its population in 2011 was 19,689. Toponymy "Kirkintilloch" comes from the Gaelic ''Cair Cheann Tulaich'' or ''Cathair Cheann Tulaich'', meaning "fort at the end of the hill".
