North Circular Road
The North Circular Road (officially the A406 and sometimes known as simply the North Circular) is a ring road around Central London. It runs from Chiswick in the west to North Woolwich in the east via suburban north London, connecting various suburbs and other trunk roads in the region. Together with its counterpart, the South Circular Road, it mostly forms a ring road around central London, except for crossing of the River Thames, which is done by the Woolwich Ferry. The road was constructed in the Interwar period to connect local industrial communities and by pass London. Bounds Green is a suburb to the north of Wood Green, in the London Borough of Haringey and London Borough of Enfield in north London. Parts of it are also known as New Southgate, but most of New Southgate lies in the London Borough of Enfield to the north-west. Bounds Green was originally formed as a popular overnight stop-over for travellers, located on the then outskirts of London, just short of the tollgate at Turnpike Lane. Bounds Green Underground station on the Piccadilly line, opened in 1932, is in the area previously known as Bowes Park and which is also served by Bowes Park railway station. The original name of Bounds Green was associated with the former Bounds Green Farm near Cline Road, some 500 metres to the north-west of the Underground station. Wood Green is a suburban district of the London Borough of Haringey, London, England. Its postal district is N22, with parts in N8 or N15. The London Plan identifies it as one of the metropolitan centres in Greater London, and today it forms a major commercial district of north London. Catharine Smithies
Catherine Smithies (; 1785 – 1877) was an English philanthropist and campaigner for animal welfare, abolitionism and temperance. She was the creator of the first Band of Mercy, which promoted teaching children kindness towards non-human animals and led to the Bands of Mercy movement. Biography Early life and family Catherine Bywater was born in 1785 in Tadcaster, Yorskhire. She later lived in Leeds. Smithies was a Methodist, and her religious beliefs strongly influenced her activism. In 1812, she married James Smithies at St Peter's Church, Leeds. Her son, Thomas Bywater Smithies (1817–1883), the second of ten children, was born in 1817; he later became a close partner in her campaigns for abolition and temperance. After her husband's death in 1861, she moved to London to live with Thomas at Earlham Grove House, which was built around 1865. Trinity Gardens is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. The name is taken from Holy Trinity Church on North Terrace, Adelaide, and was formerly known as Trinity Glebe. History On 28 March 1840 the trustees of Holy Trinity Church – Osmond Gilles, Charles Mann and James Hurtle Fisher – were given approximately of land in the area, as ''Glebe'' lands, by Pascoe St Leger Grenfell. The land came to be known as Trinity Glebe. From 1911, the trustees had wanted to sell the Trinity Glebe for housing. However, the terms of the trust deed forbade it and required an act of Parliament to alter. In 1920, the Parliament made the necessary amendment. The land was then immediately subdivided, named Trinity Gardens, and sold for housing by Wilkinson, Sando & Wyles Ltd, who promised to make "liberal provision in the way of space for tennis, bowls and croquet".
