Popes Peak
Popes Peak is a mountain on the border of Alberta and British Columbia in Western Canada, on the Continental Divide of the Americas, part of the Bow Range of the Canadian Rockies between Lake Louise (Alberta), Lake Louise Valley and Cataract Brook, bordering Banff National Park, Banff and Yoho National Park, Yoho national parks. The peak was named in 1887 after John Henry Pope, a member of the 1st Canadian Parliament. It was originally known as Boundary Peak for the borders running through it, just south of Kicking Horse Pass The mountain was first climbed in 1903 by George Collier and his brother Joseph, guided by Christian Kaufmann (alpine guide), Christian Kaufmann. Geology Popes Peak is composed of sedimentary rock laid down during the Precambrian to Jurassic periods. This mountain, which has no formal name, is located on the Canada–US border between boundary markers 445 and 446. It is the highest point on the border east of the Rocky Mountains. Specifically it is the highest point for 3190 miles of border from the Passamquoddy Bay up to 111 degrees west in Liberty County, Montana at border monument 360 (miles) from the Pacific. The southeast half is in Oxford County, Maine; the northwest half is in Le Granit Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. Boundary Peak is a mountain in Esmeralda County, Nevada, United States. With a peak elevation of , it is the highest natural point in the state of Nevada. Geography Boundary Peak is the northernmost peak of 13,000 feet or greater elevation within the White Mountains. The summit is located in Esmeralda County of southwestern Nevada, and is within the Boundary Peak Wilderness of the Inyo National Forest. It is less than half a mile (1 km) from the California state line, which is how it derived its name. While it is the highest point in Nevada, the considerably taller Montgomery Peak () is less than away, across the state line in California. Avalanche Lake (New York)
Avalanche Lake is a mountain lake located in the Adirondack High Peaks in New York. Avalanche Lake sits at between Mount Colden and Avalanche Mountain. The two mountains rise in vertical cliffs from the surface of the lake. Immediately west of Avalanche Mountain (formerly known as Caribou Mountain) lies the MacIntyre Range: Algonquin Peak (the second highest mountain in the state), Boundary Peak, Iroquois Peak and Mount Marshall. Mount Marcy is to the east. Avalanche Lake feeds Lake Colden to the south, in the Hudson River watershed. To the north, the trail to the lake from the Adirondak Loj surmounts Avalanche Pass, which is only slightly above lake level but separates it from the Lake Champlain (St. Lawrence River) watershed.
