Boule et Bill is a televised French-language cartoon series produced in Canada (as a Canada-France co-production) in 2004. It is based on the popular Belgian comic Boule et Bill. It has aired on the channel Unis since 2015. It is the third animated adaptation, the first airing in the year 1960 on the channel Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française and the second airing in 2000 on the channel TFO. There is also a fourth TV series produced in 2006 that has aired on TOU.TV since 2014. It is distributed internationally be Dargaud Distribution, and copyrighted in 2004 by Dargaud-Marina and Bel Ombre Films and TéléTOON/TPS Jeunesse. It is a Tooncan XXIII Inc. production. ''Boule et Bill'' (known in English as ''Billy & Buddy'') is a popular comics, comic, created in 1959 by Franco-Belgian comics, Belgian Comic book creator, writer-artist Jean Roba in collaboration with Maurice Rosy. In 2003, the artistic responsibility of the series was passed on to Roba's former assistant Laurent Verron. The stories center on a typical family: a man and his wife, their young son Boule and Bill the English Cocker Spaniel, cocker spaniel. History ''Boule et Bill'' first appeared in the Belgian comics magazine ''Spirou (magazine), Spirou'' on December 24, 1959. The ambition was to make a sort of European Peanuts. Unis is a Canadian French language specialty channel. The channel broadcasts general entertainment programming, with a particular focus on highlighting francophone communities outside Quebec. The channel shares a broadcasting licence with its sister channel, TV5 Québec Canada (TV5), which focuses on international and Quebec francophone programming. Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française (; RTF; "French Radio and Television Broadcasting") was the French national public broadcaster television organization established on 9 February 1949 to replace the post-war "''Radiodiffusion Française''" (RDF), which had been founded on 23 March 1945 to replace ''Radiodiffusion Nationale'' (RN), created on 29 July 1939. It was replaced in its turn, on 26 June 1964, by the notionally less-strictly government controlled Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française (ORTF), which itself lasted until the end of 1974. RTF was both state-owned and state-controlled. With a budget set by the French National Assembly under the direction of the Ministry of Information, all of its spending and investment plans had to be directly agreed by the Minister of Information and the Minister of Finance. Télétoon (stylized in all caps) is a Canadian French language specialty channel owned by Corus Entertainment that broadcasts animated series aimed at kids, teens, and adults. Its name is a portmanteau of " télévision" and "cartoon". Télétoon was launched on September 8, 1997, as a bilingual service owned by Teletoon Canada, Inc.; a consortium of Western International Communications and Astral Media (via their specialty channel Family Channel), Shaw Communications (via its specialty channel YTV), and the animation studios Cinar and Nelvana.
