In the Bible, the abyss is an unfathomably deep or boundless place. The term comes from the Greek ἄβυσσος, meaning bottomless, unfathomable, boundless. It is used as both an adjective and a noun. It appears in the Septuagint, the earliest Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, and in the New Testament. It translates the Hebrew words ''tehom'' (, deep), ''tsulah'' (, sea-deep, deep flood) and ''rachabh'' (, spacious place). In the original sense of the Hebrew ''tehom'', the abyss was the primordial waters or chaos out of which the ordered world was created (). Bottomless Pit (band)
Bottomless Pit is an indie rock band from Chicago. Guitarist Andy Cohen and baritone guitarist Tim Midyett, both formerly of Silkworm, formed the band with drummer Chris Manfrin of Seam and bassist Brian Orchard of .22 in 2005. Since inception the group has issued three critically acclaimed records and toured in the United States and Canada. The band also played one show in Paris to open the Villette Sonique Festival in June 2008 at the invitation of fellow Chicago-based rock trio Shellac. Their debut album '' Hammer of the Gods'' earned favorable reviews from various music publications. The album was in part recorded at Electrical Audio studios by Greg Norman and initially self-released on 45rpm vinyl. Notably, the vinyl record also included a copy of the album on compact disc for convenience. The following EP, entitled ''Congress'', was also released in this format. ''Bottomless Pit'' is the fifth studio album by experimental hip hop group Death Grips, released on May 6, 2016, through Third Worlds and Harvest Records. Background On October 21, 2015, the group uploaded a video to their YouTube page titled ''Bottomless Pit''. It features footage from 2013 of the late American actress Karen Black reciting lines from a film script that Death Grips drummer Zach Hill wrote months before her death. They also posted on their website and Facebook page that this would be the title for their upcoming fifth official studio album. Later, on December 16, the group posted a tweet containing the phrase "it won't lit", eventually revealed to be a lyric from the ''Bottomless Pit'' track "BB Poison". On February 6, 2016, Death Grips released the song "Hot Head" from their upcoming album onto their SoundCloud and YouTube accounts. "Bottomless Pit!" is the 14th episode of the first season of the American animated television series ''Gravity Falls'', created by Alex Hirsch. The episode was written by Alex Hirsch and Mike Rianda, and directed by Joe Pitt and Aaron Springer. The episode features Soos, Grunkle Stan, Dipper Pines, and Mabel Pines falling down a bottomless pit and telling stories to pass the time. "Bottomless Pit!" premiered on Disney Channel in the United States on March 1, 2013, and garnered 3.45 million viewers on its premiere night. Plot The Mystery Gang, consisting of Grunkle Stan, Dipper Pines, Mabel Pines, and Soos, throw away unwanted trash at the bottomless pit next to the Mystery Shack. While Dipper doubts the possibility of such a pit, strong winds cause the crew to fall into the pit. While in the pit, the crew try to pass the time by telling stories, with Dipper going first.
