Boston Celtics Radio Network
The Boston Celtics Radio Network is a radio network that broadcasts Boston Celtics basketball games with a flagship station of WBZ-FM (98.5). Carried in 5 of the 6 New England states, the network has 20 stations (8 on AM, 12 on FM). From 2005 until 2013, Celtics games had been carried on Entercom-owned stations WRKO and WEEI. That partnership ended in August 2013. In September 2013, the Celtics announced that they had signed a multi-year deal with CBS Radio to broadcast games on their network. CBS Radio and Entercom merged in 2017. The Boston Celtics ( ) are an American professional basketball team based in Boston. WLOB (1310 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Portland, Maine. The station is owned by Atlantic Coast Radio and airs a Talk radio format. The studios and transmitter are on Warren Avenue in Portland. WLOB operates at 5000 watts using a directional antenna to protect other stations on its frequency. Programming on WLOB is also heard on FM translator W263BZ at 100.5 MHz. Programming Weekdays begin a local news and interview show, hosted by Ray Richardson, which is also carried on several other AM stations in Maine. WHTB (1400 AM) is a Portuguese language radio station in Fall River, Massachusetts, operating with 1 kW unlimited hours. History Originally known as WALE, the call sign moved to 990 AM in Providence, Rhode Island on July 20, 1989. On that date, SNE Broadcasting Ltd. (owned by local businessmen Robert and James Karam) took ownership of 1400 AM and introduced the WHTB call sign. The station's first location was at the corner of North Main Street and Central Street in Fall River, Massachusetts, known as the Durfee Theatre Building. The station's "Whale" was a plaster and chicken wire figure atop the building with the words "WALE 1400" on the sides in white paint. The transmitting antenna was on the roof and had a copper screen ground system. There was no real ground connection to the antenna, and the screen created an artificial grounding system, limiting the coverage area. Most programming is provided by Boston sister station WEEI-FM. Westbrook is a city in Cumberland County, Maine, United States and a suburb of Portland. Topsham () is a town in Sagadahoc County, Maine, United States. The population was 9,560 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. The town is home to the annual Topsham Fair. History Called Sawacook, the area was territory of the Pejepscot Abenaki Indians, a subtribe of the Anasagunticooks (now Androscoggins), who controlled the Androscoggin River. They lived and fished at Pejepscot Falls. But a plague, probably smallpox brought by Europeans, decimated the tribe's population in 1615–1616. WPPI (95.5 FM) is a sports radio station in the Portland, Maine area. The current owner is Atlantic Coast Radio. The station mostly carries the same programs as WEEI-FM from Boston. Some local commercials take the place of Boston commercials. And some WEEI-FM game broadcasts are substituted with Fox Sports Radio.
