Bortolami (gallery)
Bortolami is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2005 by Stefania Bortolami and Amalia Dayan. History Before opening the gallery, Bortolami worked for Anthony d'Offay. Dayan was a director with Gagosian Gallery. The gallery first opened a space at West 25th Street in Chelsea. From 2010 to 2016, the gallery operated a space on West 20th Street in Chelsea. It has since been located in a space at 39 Walker Street in Tribeca, but also organizes 12-month long contemporary art exhibitions in unlikely locations for its ''Artist/City'' project that pairs an artist with an American city. Artists who have participated in the project include Daniel Buren, Eric Wesley and Tom Burr. Anthony D'Offay
Georges Anthony d'Offay (born January 1940) is a British art dealer, collector and curator. His was born to a Seychellois father. Life and career Georges Anthony d'Offay was born in January 1940 in Sheffield to a French father. He began dealing in art in the late 1960s, operating from premises in Dering Street off the top of New Bond Street in London. He closed the gallery in 2001 and founded Artist Rooms in 2008. He has been the recipient of the UK Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award (2009), The Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy (2011) and the Paolozzi Medal (2011). He has been awarded Honorary Doctorates by The University of Edinburgh, De Montfort University, Leicester and Sheffield Hallam University. Mary Obering
Mary Obering (1937 – July 29, 2022) was an American painter focusing mainly on geometric abstraction. Early life and education Obering was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1937. When Obering was a teenager, she visited Italy for the first time – the formative trip introduced her to art and Renaissance painting, an experience that Obering said "was always in the back of ermind." Obering received her BA in psychology from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia in 1959. Later that year, she attended graduate school for psychology at Radcliffe College, studying under noted behavioral psychologist B.F. Skinner, who taught at Harvard University at the time. Obering then moved to New York City to work for CBS, where she studied at the Art Students League. Eric Wesley (born 1973) is an American artist. Wesley was born in Los Angeles, California, where he continues to live and work. Lesley Vance (born 1977, Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is an American artist based in Los Angeles. Virginia Overton (born 1971) is an American artist. She is known for her site-specific and sculpture works that often incorporate found or readymade objects. In 2018 she was the first female artist to have a solo exhibition at the Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, Queens, New York. Early life and education Overton was born in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1971. Overton has said that, although her mother was a painter, it was her father who started her interest in sculpting. Although she tried other jobs, Overton acknowledged that she wanted to become an artist because she felt it was important to find a career that contributed to society.
