Borth Railway Station
Borth railway station serves the village of Borth, near Aberystwyth, Wales. It is a stop on the Cambrian Line between and . History The station was opened by the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway on 1 July 1863, along with the section of line between and Borth. It originally had two platforms with a goods yard to the north, but is now an unstaffed halt. The station was host to a Great Western Railway camping coach from 1934 to 1939; one was also positioned here by the Western Region from 1952 to 1962. In 1963, the administration of camping coaches at the station was taken over by the London Midland; there was a coach here from 1963 to 1968 and two coaches from 1969 to 1971. The original station building still remains and is Grade II listed; it is in private commercial use apart from one room, which provides a waiting room for passengers. Borth
Borth () is a village, seaside resort and community in Ceredigion, Mid Wales; it is located 7 miles (11 km) north of Aberystwyth, on the Ceredigion Coast Path. The community includes the settlement of Ynyslas and the population was 1,399 in 2011. From being largely Welsh-speaking, the village has become anglicised; over 54 per cent of its residents were born in England. According to both the 1991 and 2001 censuses, 43 per cent of the residents of Borth were primarily Welsh-speakers. Features and history Borth's sandy beach has helped to promote it as a seaside resort. There is a youth hostel in the village, and caravan and camping sites nearby. There is an ancient submerged forest visible at low tide along the beach, where stumps of oak, pine, birch, willow and hazel (preserved by the acid anaerobic conditions in the peat) can be seen. London Midland Region Of British Railways
The London Midland Region (LMR) was one of the six regions created on the formation of the nationalised British Railways (BR), and initially consisted of ex-London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) lines in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The region was managed first from buildings adjacent to Euston station, and later from Stanier House in Birmingham. It existed from the creation of BR in 1948, ceased to be an operating unit in its own right in the 1980s, and was wound up at the end of 1992. Derek Brockway
Derek Clifford Brockway (born 29 October 1967) is a Welsh meteorologist. He joined the BBC in 1995. Brockway is based at BBC Cymru Wales in Cardiff, Wales and presents weather forecasts on radio, television and online as well as appearing in other programmes. Education and training Brockway was born in Barry and attended Holton Road Primary School. His interest in the weather began as a boy during the long, hot summer of 1976. He went to Barry Boys Comprehensive from 1979 to 1986 where he studied A-Levels in mathematics, physics and geology. BBC One Wales is a Welsh free-to-air television channel owned and operated by BBC Cymru Wales. It is the Welsh variation of the UK-wide BBC One network and is broadcast from Central Square in Cardiff. The Rail Delivery Group Limited (RDG), previously the Association of Train Operating Companies, is the British rail industry membership body that brings together passenger and freight rail companies, Network Rail and High Speed 2.
