Borsonia
''Borsonia'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Borsoniidae. Description The fusiform shell has medium to small size. It has an elevated spire and a well-marked siphonal canal. The whorls of the spire are usually angulated near the middle. On this angle they show elongated nodes or axial ribs. These nodes disappear almost completely at the last section of the body whorl. The sutures are distinct. The aperture is elongate and is about half as long as the shell. The simple outer lip curves back near the top and forms a deep notch. The columella is nearly straight and has none, one or two strong plications on the upper half. The anal sinus of the outer lip is not deep The sinus area between and the strong sutural cord are well excavated. There is an opening in the infrasutural depression of the body whorl. Distribution At considerable depths in the subtropical and temperate waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean; in shallower boreal w ... (Original description) The rather thick shell has a fusiform shape and is yellowish-white. The upper whorls are lost by erosion. Of the remaining 6 whorls the upper ones are still eroded, of the 4 whorls which are in sufficient state of preservation, the upper 2 are slightly angular, their upper part a little excavated, the lower part more convex, with a single row of nodules on the limit. In the lower ones the shell is slightly excavated below the suture, but otherwise regularly rounded, without nodules. The sculpture consists of numerous arcuate striae, with stronger ones at intervals, indicating the margin of the sinus at ... Sculpture : there are in the middle of the whorls small rounded tubercles, of which there are about 11 on the first ordinary and 16 on the body whorl. On the earlier whorls they are feebly prolonged downwards as riblets, but become weaker on the last whorls. Borsonia Hirondelleae

The not very solid, whitish shell has a fusiform shape. The rather high shell is turriculate and contains seven convex whorls, subangular at the periphery, separated by a simple suture. The whorls contain longitudinal, nodulose ribs (13 on the penultimate whorl). The aperture is narrow and is half as long as the length of the shell. The front of the columella is slightly twisted and has a small callus. The outer lip is simple and sharp. It forms a rather narrow sinus.
