Boriss Berziņš
Boriss Berziņš (7 October 1930, Riga – 11 February 2002, Riga) was a Soviet and Latvian artist, painter, graphic artist and teacher. People's Artist of the Latvian SSR (1989), Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1988). From 1947 to 1952 he studied at the Jānis Rozentāls Art High School. In 1952 he enrolled at the Latvian Academy of Art and graduated from it in 1959. Since 1955 he participates in exhibitions. Since 1961 – member of the Artists' Union. Since 1964 she taught at the Art Academy of Latvia. In 1973, the first solo exhibition of the artist at the Latvian National Museum (all on account of the artist's 50 collective and 15 solo exhibitions). Commander of Order of the Three Stars, a lifelong scholar of the State Fund of Culture Capital, received the prize of the Latvian Culture Foundation Spīdola for lifetime contribution to the arts. The Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic (Also known as the Latvian SSR, or Latvia) was a Republics of the Soviet Union, constituent republic of the Soviet Union from 1940 to 1941, and then from 1944 until 1990. The Soviet occupation of the Baltic states (1940), Soviet occupation and annexation of Latvia began between June and August 1939, according to the agreed terms of the secret protocol of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact. The Art Academy of Latvia () is an institution of higher education and scientific research in art, located in Riga, Latvia. The neo-Gothic brick building is located on Krišjānis Valdemārs Street, next to the National Museum of Art. Order Of The Three Stars
Order of the Three Stars () is the highest civilian order awarded for meritorious service to Latvia. It was established in 1924 in remembrance of the founding of Latvia. Its motto is ''Per aspera ad astra'', meaning "Through hardships towards the stars". The Order has five ranks and three grades of medals of honour. History In the first half of 1921 the Constitutional Assembly of Latvia began to discuss introducing the first national awards and decorations. A proposed design and statutes of a three-class Order of the Wreath of Oak () was rejected by the assembly (especially by the Social Democrats and their leader Brūno Kalniņš), arguing that before the Constitution was approved, it could not be clear whether a democratic country such as Latvia should have orders in the first place. Latvian National Museum Of Art
The Latvian National Museum of Art () is an art museum in Riga, Latvia. It contains the largest collection of national art in Latvia. The museum houses more than 65,000 works of art reflecting the development of professional art in the Baltic area and in Latvia from the middle of the 18th century until the present time. The museum is located in Riga at Janis Rozentāls Square. History The main building of the museum was built between 1903 and 1905 and is a notable historicist-style structure. The building was designed by the Baltic German architect Wilhelm Neumann, who was also the museum's first director from 1905 to 1919. It is one of the last eclectic-style buildings constructed in Riga, designed in Baroque forms and finished with plaster, sandstone, and granite.
