Boris Vasilyev (cyclist)
Boris Alekseyevich Vasilyev (; 15 January 1937 – 18 June 2000) was a Russian cyclist. He competed at the 1960 Summer Olympics in the sprint and tandem sprint events and won a bronze medal in the tandem sprint. In 1977, aged 40, he was part of the Soviet team at the Peace Race The Peace Race (, , , (), , , , ) is a cycling race that was established as the largest event in Eastern Europe after the Second World War. Since 2013, it has been run as one of the most prestigious stage races for national U23 teams. Histo ... and finished in second place in the second stage. After retirement he worked as a cycling coach. In particular, he prepared the Soviet track team for the 1980 and 1988 Summer Olympics. The Peace Race (, , , (), , , , ) is a cycling race that was established as the largest event in Eastern Europe after the Second World War. Since 2013, it has been run as one of the most prestigious stage races for national U23 teams. History At the outset, due to the political situation, it was a nominally "amateur" event, which therefore excluded participation of Western cycling stars. Nevertheless, the organisers were able to give the event an international character thanks to the start of competitors from the Eastern Bloc sphere. Workers' organisations from Italy, France and Finland also sent their representatives. In Prague, forty-five years after the first edition of the Tour de France, seven teams set off to Poland, and ten from Warsaw.
