Borges Blanques
Les Borges Blanques () is the capital of the comarca of Les Garrigues, in the province of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain. According to the 2014 census, the municipality has a population of 6,088 inhabitants. Geography It lies in the southern sector of the central Catalan depression, near the zone watered by the Urgell canal. The high plateaus are covered by olive groves. The economy is agricultural, and Les Borges Blanques is a major producer of olives, in particular a variety known as arbequina which produces a highly prized oil. The cooperative movement has strong roots in the area. There is little or no tourist infrastructure. Vinaixa
Vinaixa () is a municipality in the region of Les Garrigues, in the province of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain. The town centre is arranged around the old castle and in the appearance of the buildings stone predominates. It has a hunting ground and the stone industry has been the main economic activity for many years. In its municipality, there are numerous pine forests. The main attraction is the church of St. John the Baptist, in Romanesque-Cistercian style. It houses several Romanesque paintings and a Gothic retable. Arbeca
Arbeca is a village in the comarca of Les Garrigues, in the province of Lleida, in Catalonia, Spain. It is the third village of Les Garrigues in number of inhabitants, close to Les Borges Blanques and Juneda. The population is about 2,500 and the village has given its name to arbequina olives, used to produce a highly valued olive oil for human consumption, grown not only in Les Garrigues but also in many places in Spain, such as Andalusia. Francesc Queralt
Francesc (sometimes Francisco) Queralt (1740 - 28 February 1825) was a Spanish composer, long active in Barcelona. A native of Les Borges Blanques, Queralt was for many years the ''maestro di capilla'' of Barcelona Cathedral. Greatly respected as a teacher, he counted among his pupils Baltasar Saldoni, Ramón Carnicer, and Mateu Ferrer. As a composer he worked exclusively in religious forms, producing four masses and numerous responsories, motets, and other such works. He composed numerous oratorios in an Italianate style, many of them for performance at the Church of Saint Philip Neri in Barcelona.
