Borge Bay
Borge Bay () is a large, irregularly-shaped bay that dominates the east side of Signy Island, in the South Orkney Islands of Antarctica. It was charted in 1912 by Norwegian whaling captain Petter Sorlle, and named for Captain Hans Borge of the ''Polynesia'', who undertook additional mapping of the bay during the following year. It was charted in more detail in 1927 and 1933 by Discovery Investigations personnel, who named many of its features. It was surveyed further in 1947 by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS), which named several other features. Geography The headland Balin Point marks the north side of the entrance to Borge Bay. It was charted in 1933 and named in association with Balin Rocks. To the south along the coast are Drying Point, Mooring Point, and Knife Point, whose names first appear on a chart based upon the 1927 survey of Borge Bay, possibly reflecting earlier names given by whalers. Borge Point
Mikkelsen Harbour () is a small bay indenting the south side of Trinity Island between Skottsberg Point and Borge Point, in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. It provides excellent anchorage for ships, and was frequently used by sealing vessels in the first half of the nineteenth century and by Norwegian whaling vessels at the beginning of the twentieth century. History Mikkelsen Harbour was discovered by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (SAE) of 1901–04. The origin of the name comes from Peder Michelsen, a whaling manager who was lost in the whaling grounds in December 1910. The harbour was charted by Captain Hans Borge. Borge Municipality (Nordland)
Borge is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until 1963. It was located on the northern part of the island of Vestvågøya in what is now Vestvågøy Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Bøstad where Borge Church is located. Other villages in the municipality included Borg, Knutstad, and Tangstad. Prior to its dissolution in 1963, the municipality was the 379th largest by area out of the 705 municipalities in Norway. Borge Municipality was the 208th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of about 4,082. The municipality's population density was and its population had decreased by 10.4% over the previous 10-year period. Borge Church
Borge Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vestvågøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located just outside of the village of Bøstad on the island of Vestvågøya. It is the church for the Borge parish which is part of the Lofoten prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The red and white concrete church was built in a fan-shaped style in 1986 using plans drawn up by the architect Knut Gjernes. The church seats about 600 people. The building was consecrated on 31 May 1987. History Borge Church is first mentioned in written sources in a document from 1335, but the church was not built that year. There likely have been six churches on this site over the centuries. The original church was located about northwest of the present church site. Börger () is a village and a municipality in the district Emsland in Lower Saxony, Germany. Börger is part of the ''Samtgemeinde'' of Sögel. History Early history An exact age of the village cannot be given. Northern European Germanic tribes may have settled in the area of the Northern Hümmling (Northern Emsland) about the birth of Christ, and it is commonly believed that the first documented mentioning of Börger was around the year AD 854. Therefore, the village celebrated its 1150 years of existence in 2004.
